Tuesday, July 21, 2009 4:43:04 PM This is complete c*ck. My boss sticks his entire arm in the LN2 tank to check the level. The rest of us take frozen eppendorf tubes out of the nitorgen with our hands (I usually wear latex gloves, if it is a hot sweaty day sometimes they freeze). Boll*cks to the "I am an expert" bit as well, anyone can do this. The fact that people don't know this is that the world is too full of credulous morons who get all of their science (and history for that matter) from Hollywood, which is nearly always wrong. |

Monday, July 20, 2009 7:36:52 PM Some guy won a Darwin Award honorable mention with something similar to this. The leidenfrost affect also applies to putting liquid nitrogen in your mouth, so he accidentally swallowed it trying to do so. The genius nearly died, but to all of our disappointment he lived. |

Monday, July 20, 2009 3:41:06 AM As a chemist who uses Liq Nitrogen regularly, this video is very irresponsible."Why is everyone so afraid of it?! I use liquid nitrogen in the genetics lab and I always fish out my centifuge tubes from it with my bare hands - takes no *psyching up*..." As for this, you obviously don't have your centrifuge tubes submerged in Liq Nitrogen, otherwise you will have lost your fingers by now. Even the video shows that the effect lasts no longer than about 15 seconds, meaning that the tubes would be that cold after 15 seconds, thereby freezing your fingers on contact. I also know this from experience of being wholly stupid in my research lab and grabbing a vessel that had been in Liq nitrogen, it took 5 minutes to defrost it from my hand without permanent damage and a week of bandaging. |

Sunday, July 19, 2009 10:09:36 PM Heey, I used to mess around with this effect back in my freshman year...In metal shop...When I finished welding some peices of metal, I spit on it, and the spit would ball up and roll around. Neat-o Torpedo! |

Sunday, July 19, 2009 8:10:52 PM i remember my science center dipped an onion in liquid nitrogen and dropped it, I was more interested in the sound it made, I dont think ill hear anything like it ever again |
