My city still has a "black" pool. It's been there since my dad was a kid. I can't believe we haven't grown up since then.

had to be in my hometown. Kids just want to swim, there isn't any "undercurrent of aggression" they're kids, trying to spend their summer doing something fun, healthy,LEGAL. |

Redux: Most of those kids looked well below the age of any such unfavorable characteristics taking hold, and thus should be EXPOSED to any desirable alternative as defined by those who might have objected out-of-hand at their presence.Maybe they were simply being unruly that day or relatively unsupervised compared to other parties as pointed out by many submissions hitherto; in that case, the club should have known what it was getting itself into with 1 parental guardian on-hand at any given time.. |

Devil's Advocate: In my own experience, black kids tend to be more unruly in the presence of open water sources than whites.Secondly, despite their youth, the ubiquitous 'accents' and lingo which usually accompany such varieties of American do "fundamentally change the atmosphere" of anywhere they go and have detracted from my own experiences in the past, swimming or otherwise. Thirdly, the strong undercurrent of aggression and resentment present in black American culture/disposition could be enough to cause some understandable concern and discomfort among relatively homogeneous white sub-populations. |

Two completely different issues here.
1) A racist mom complained that there were to many black kids.
2) Other people complained that having 30 or so kids in a pool that is probably 30x50 feet max "changed the atmosphere" I agree. |

Those poor kids. It's one thing to be a racist asshat, it's another thing to take it out on children. Their daycamp paid the fee in full and these kids were NOT unsupervised and did nothing wrong. What a disgraceful world we still live in...I don't think a lot of people realize just how badly racism hurts and destroys. I grew up with it as a kid and this story just breaks my heart. |

Used to be you didn't have to go to a private club, you could just go to a public pool. Now you can't even go to the pool at the private club. |

I'm confused about one thing: do they regularly let a day camp of white kids who are not members of their private club use the pool?I'm white and I'm not allowed to go use the pool at a private club either. |
