technically.. SHE didn't diagnose herself, they sent it off to a pathologist who confirmed the disease. she just found the dark spot.

Xekt:
Crohn's Disiease can also be brought on from other diseases, such as celiac. If a person has Celiac (a person's inability to break dow the protien gluten, found in wheat, malt, and barley) and they continuously ingest gluten, it can lead to crohn's and the eventual breakdown of the intestines all together.

sorry, i just needed to throw in the little bit i know :)

It is unknown as to what causes Crohn's, though many doctors believe it to be generic and stress-related. It is, also, more common amongst young teens through young adults. I was diagnosed with it at the age of 17 and honestly it can be a bit frightening as of how little information is known about it and the lack of a cure. As it is a chronic disease, people have to live with it for the rest of their lives and it can change ones life style. I believe when she said a kid's book, it was more aimed for teenagers, not children under the age of 13.
Rawr. I can, however, see a doctor expecting money. If anything, they'll get it thought treatment and checkups, damn the price even after insurance.

isn't crohn's disease started with water that's too clean, there's not enough parasites and because the immune system has nothing to attack it attacks itself? just give her a hookworm or two!

ElDavo: why is lupus always joked about like that...I used to laugh...pretend i didn't care but u know what i do! It IS sometimes lupus and when your mother is on the edge of liver and kidney failure after 15 years of doctors saying "oh its never lupus" then yeah it gets old.

What really sucks is that this disease is thought to come from not having enough germs and bacteria in your body. The first people diagnosed were rich Westerners whose water and food was cleaner than everyone else's.

Good for her. I would be dead if it wasn't for my mother. When I was 8, my doctor said nothing was wrong with me. As my mom did research of my issues, it turned out I had type one diabetes. My blood glucose was 483 when they checked it. Bottom line is doctors can't always be trusted as much as they are.

The disease doesn't necessarily kill you, it's just very painful and debilitating (though, over time, its complications can lead to early death). And the samples are fixed and mounted on slides. She probably knew they were going to be using the microscopes that day and called her doctor and asked if she could have one of the slides of her tissue they had taken previously. It's her tissue, there's no reason they wouldn't give it to her, unless it was dangerous in some way, which it's not. She didn't carry a tray with fresh intestinal tissue on it into class.

Yeah...
Have to agree with the two below me.
How'd she get the sample, and how was she allowed into the class with it. Expecially with it open and exposed like it was.

Otherwise, I applaud this girl.

She may have been correct, but she didn't get paid for the diagnosis, and he DID. In what matters in the Real World, he still won

Emily55 said it right. How did she get a sample of her intestinal tissue? And why was she bringing that to class? Bio hazard much?
