Tuesday, September 22, 2009 12:01:04 AM Ammonium sulfate is definitely not salt. The chemical name for what we commonly call salt is sodium chloride, which means it's made of sodium and chlorine, not ammonia and sulphur.Ammonium Sulfate IS in fact a salt. It is an inorganic substance with two ammonium cations and one sulfate anion bonded together ionically, hence forming a salt based on the definition of a salt. |

Thursday, June 25, 2009 8:36:18 PM "I call bs on the ammonium sulfate. Its a freaking salt for crying out loud."Ammonium sulfate is definitely not salt. The chemical name for what we commonly call salt is sodium chloride, which means it's made of sodium and chlorine, not ammonia and sulphur. But you may still have a point in calling BS in that it's just a chemical, which obviously has multiple applications, not just as a fertilizer. |

Thursday, June 25, 2009 1:11:21 PM I call bs on the ammonium sulfate. Its a freaking salt for crying out loud. Its used for a lot of stuff..because. its. a. salt. Reminds me of the stupid hairdressers that try to get you to switch over to their expensive hair products by saying cheaper conditioners use the same smoothing agents that go into making floor wax. OK... and that hurts... HOW? So what if its a product with multiple uses. |

Tuesday, June 23, 2009 9:32:21 PM wasn't that shocking. surprised they didn't elaborate on the fact that gelatin is congealed beef fat. souse meat is made of pig head innards. mushrooms are bred in poo (for you self righteous vegeatrian weirdos.)... we eat a thousand disgusting things everyday. microorganisms, bacteria. after reading upton sinclair's the jungle, no modern food could ever disgust me anymore. |

Tuesday, June 23, 2009 9:05:00 PM I actually followed the link for Allura Red AC (the coal tar as red flavor), and found out that it's also known as Red#40, which made me hyper as a child. XP I wasn't allowed to have more than one carton of strawberry milk as a kid because of it... >.>Yeah, and white sugar is filtered with bone char. A lot of commerical products are goddamned nasty, but I've gotten used to it. Even some products that seem healthier (fruits and veggies) have some gross poo added to add shine or make things taste better, or even to get rid of pests. Maybe evolution will give us an immunity to all of this crap. We haven't been dying out in droves so far, so it can't be too bad, even if it is drating gross. |

Tuesday, June 23, 2009 8:41:28 PM Meh, gross doesn't mean bad. People freak out over chemicals and non-natural things way more than is necessary. |

Tuesday, June 23, 2009 6:16:26 PM I'm surprised that there's no mention that gelatin (Jello) is made from pig's feet. While we're at it, it's perfectly acceptable for flour to contain boll weevils, and many vegetables to include aphids. Also: the "vein" along the back of peel-and-eat shrimp is poo. I'll not describe what "mechanically separated chicken" is (popular in "red-hot sausages" along with cow lips and hearts). Don't even ask what goes into sausage, scrapple or liver mush--it's unspeakable. BTW: "All-beef hot dogs" are about 50% cow fat (it took legislation to get that one to fly). Come to think of it, McDonald's fries until recently used lard (cow fat) too. Now they just add "beef flavoring" to the oil. Would anybody like more sweetbreads or chitluns? I'll stop now... |

Tuesday, June 23, 2009 5:54:58 PM Do you think anyone who eats any of that sh*t really cares? It's like telling a smoker that tobacco is bad for them. |

Tuesday, June 23, 2009 5:32:44 PM That list hasn't phased me. None of those things have harmed me yet (the things off that list I likely eat, anyway), so I see no reason to freak out over it now. And bugs are very healthy, so they say. |
