Friday, June 26, 2009 6:55:41 PM Hmm... Well they should be sure to mention its not mandatory, because from what I can tell, no one bothered to put that on the applications. But let me put it this way... asking for their usernames is freaky and borderline. Asking for their PASSWORDS it just plain out wrong. The hell do you need their passwords for? |

Tuesday, June 23, 2009 2:01:53 AM "But Rupp said it is not as bad as it sounds since applicants are not scored negatively for refusing to answer the question."Okay then. What's the big deal? It's not mandatory people. |

Sunday, June 21, 2009 12:39:52 PM If they don't give a f uck if people provide it or not when asked, why even ask? Do they really expect people to do it if they don't have to? |

Sunday, June 21, 2009 11:27:33 AM Isn't this kind of against the fourth amendment? "Protection from unreasonable search and seizure""The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated..." And since papers have been pretty much completely replaced with the internet. I think they should be sued. |

Sunday, June 21, 2009 7:54:34 AM This is a horrible idea because it benefits neither the city nor the employees. It has far FAR too many flaws.... I don't even need to mention those flaws. You know what they are. |

Saturday, June 20, 2009 11:40:41 PM the time is upon us when the evolution of technology is consequent to our evolution in the concepts of space, state and consciousness. Every ethical and moral paradigm we have held as human beings for a very long time is being overturned as our knowledge of our environment becomes more "defined". Knowledge of one's environment is the crux for manipulating it to one's needs (in our case - that's what makes us human beings ><).my god am i rambling. point is paradigms are starting to shift, it's going to take some serious getting used to , and getting there will not often be pretty. i'd call it Puberty of the Human Race. |

Saturday, June 20, 2009 10:10:15 PM And a lot of people probably don't realize that their employers DO have keyloggers, and possible screenshot loggers, just compiling information so when they fire you they can prove it was justified. NOBODY reads company policy manuals....well, except smart people. |

Saturday, June 20, 2009 10:07:38 PM Its about employers concerned with employees talking crap about the company or divulging sensitive information. Nurses posted pictures of patients they took on their cell-phones on their facebook pages, so in that case WHOSE privacy is being invaded? A private conversation is one thing - a posting on the internet is a form of publication, which persists. Krabkat said: "I am entitled to a private life that does not conform to their idea of an appropriate employee. If I want to let my hair down outside of work - it's NOTB!!" I think its funny that Americans believe they are entitled to have a job. In America, your employer has wide discreation to fire you for practically any reason, aside from discrimination like race, sex, etc. I LIKE IT THAT WAY. If I employed people who I believed reflected badly on the company, I'd fire them. You are entitled to a private life, but you make the choice whether your private life costs you a job.

Saturday, June 20, 2009 6:34:12 PM Ugh, that is horrible. A password is private for a reason. Honestly on facebook the only thing they can access with a password is the private messages... why would a company need that? |

Saturday, June 20, 2009 5:55:22 PM I disagree with this entirley. If you have a private converation in your home with one of your friends then your boss does not need to know about it but if you have it on the internet with your friend who is staying in another state it is suddenly on a need to know basis with your boss. This is a invasion of privacy. I am not trying to debate I am just giving my opinion. |

Saturday, June 20, 2009 5:00:02 PM If this is real:That is none of their business AT ALL. What is the use of a password? The secure and private keyword or phrase someone uses to make sure THAT INDIVIDUAL and ONLY THAT INDIVIDUAL can access their information and make changes to it. If someone EVER asks for your password, DENY THEM. That is YOUR privacy. It's data rape really. |

Saturday, June 20, 2009 3:44:39 PM Perhaps they're not trying to look at what is on your page, but just trying to limit your use while at work. It is a government job. Do you want your taxes going to pay for someone to update their status 20 times a day? |
