"Yes I am. Really. When it comes to a historical comparison of video games, someone who has played them all does, in fact, have a better basis for judgment than a person who has only played recent versions."
Even the 1948 cathode ray amusement device?

For those of us who think Tetris is a truly awesome game, we already know it. For those who don't think so, will not be convinced by facts. It's their opinion, so we can't change it by argumenting.

"I also have played them all but tetris isn't the greatest. It is a great game though don't get me wrong but it's not a fact it's an opinion."

My words, that YOU QUOTED in your post, say "ONE OF the greatest games of all time." It doesn't say THE greatest, it says "ONE OF the greatest."

Less time playing video games and more time reading, please.

"If you say that Tetris is not one of the greatest video games in the history of video games, you have invalidated your statement with a clear falsehood. That does, in fact, prove that someone my age does, in fact, know more than a younger person who doesn't know the originals.

The list asked for the best game of ALL TIME. To answer the question, you must have been around for ALL of video game history."

I also have played them all but tetris isn't the greatest. It is a great game though don't get me wrong but it's not a fact it's an opinion.

You also have to have played every single game ever made in ALL TIME.

Congrats to Tetris.

Also, LandoGriffin - Please, join us in the chat if you enjoy posting in the thread that much. I just mean that it is quite a lot to scroll over because none of it pertains to anything interesting. I mean that in the nicest way possible. The chat button is at the top, next to "Random."

Seeya in the chat!

I've had this same conversation with some kid who tried to claim that the Beatles were not one of the greatest music groups of the 20th Century.

"LandoGriffin, I'm 17 and I grew up playing all the games you listed along with newer games. My Atari 2600 still works too."

OK, Glowy, since you played them all, then yes, you have all the necessary information to make an informed decision. I would listen to your opinions no matter what your age, since you know your stuff. Good for you! I wish there were more young people like you who understood where they came from and where they are going in the future.

"LandoGriffin - People like you annoy me. Just because you're over 30 means you're an authority on the subject of video games? I'm sorry but.. No you're not."

Yes I am. Really. When it comes to a historical comparison of video games, someone who has played them all does, in fact, have a better basis for judgment than a person who has only played recent versions.

"And who said creativity lacked in the U.S.S.R."

Nobody EVER said that! What sort of a comment was that? Doesn't everyone agree that some of the best writers in history came from the old Soviet Union? Leo Tolstoy? Fyodor Dostoyevsky? Not to mention Anton Chekov and the play director who invented the concept of acting as we know it, Konstantin Stanislavski?

How about music? Igor Stravinsky? Piotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky?

How about Lev Yashin, the greatest goalie in history?

What an idiotic thing to say, as if ANYONE had EVER claimed the Soviet Union lacked creativity!

I like to play this on the DS. My husband and I used to compete to get the highest score, but he quit. He got tired of me kicking his butt. He likes to challenge me to Mortal Kombat because I stink at it.

I tend not to take top 10 lists etc too seriously as peoples attitudes and opinions change all the time. Its part of the evolution process! Also with such a huge selection of styles and genre of games who can say that a shoot-em-up is better than a platform game or a FPS is better than a puzzle game.
However as far as games are concerned I think it is important to give credit to games that have changed the industry, for example had it not been for Wolf3d we would not have had FPS games; Pitfall/Mario/Sonic - platform; Ridge Racer/Wipeout - 3D racing; etc. etc. You get the point.

Happy Birthday Tetris great game

I think I read somewhere that the programmer Alexey Pajitnov although never received any royalties while living in Russia for its creation, now works for Microsoft.

@Angelmassb lol that version takes some dedication.

@LandoGriffin you just brought back some great memories of my childhood. I wish I still had my Atari 2600 Apart from space invaders, I always liked Combat and Tutankham. Me and a few friends would spend all night seeing how many times we could clock Tutankham The first time I played pong was on some strange console my friend had that only played pong - I think it was called telstar sports.

Now I am going to dust off my old atari 2600 emulator and have some fun

All that matters is this is one of the greatest games of all time. I would rather have a gameboy with a copy of Tetris then most modern games. Mostly cause I can play it for hours on end where most modern games don't come in a drating hand-held version!

"Also, age-racists? When did this happen?"
From the moment older gamers realized that there were games that that they played but younger gamers didn't, and that it makes them some kind of expert. I'm going to go back to playing oblivion with guns now ;)

Woah, I never expected vitriolic sentiment about Tetris.

Also, age-racists? When did this happen?
