Wednesday, May 20, 2009 10:48:01 PM He makes no sence at all. YES he is being invited BECAUSE he won. Why would they invite the team that came in third? Take advantage of a once in a lifetime oportunity and go to the White House.....moron. |

Wednesday, May 20, 2009 3:14:59 PM Eff everyone who disagrees with Harrison's decision. I'm from Pittsburgh and I support him only because he's right. Obama invited the Red Socks or whoever before and they didn't win anything. The only reason he wants to see them is because he won. Well screw Obama. And ElDavo: don't be a poor loser. |

Tuesday, May 19, 2009 7:35:37 PM The government shouldn't be involved with sports. Maybe local politics building stadiums, or the federal government allotting special funds for sport encouragement but not using the high place to meet and mingle with sport celebrities. It's not their job. |

Tuesday, May 19, 2009 7:19:56 PM It's really because, in true Steelers fashion, he didn't earn a Superbowl win therefore he didn't earn a trip to the White House. Yes, even now I'm insisting that the Steelers were handed the Lombardi trophy when the Cardinals really won that game. |

Tuesday, May 19, 2009 3:50:41 PM HarryBalszak - you're the only one making this about race. Apparently he refused to go in 2005 as well, when Bush was in power, so it's clearly nothing to do with race, or indeed political affiliation. |

Tuesday, May 19, 2009 2:39:54 PM "Put some back into the art program! My school's always running out of supplies and funding, while the sports teams are rolling in cash."emzrok, if you can get people to pay to watch you draw a picture, then you'd have all the money you need. |

Tuesday, May 19, 2009 2:37:55 PM "so why is it athletes can get a full college college scholarship and those that excede academically get nothing or next to nothing?"McGovern: First of all, football brings in enough for most big schools to cover everything. Second, a good sports program creates pride in a school and increases donations. Even from people that never went there. Schools aren't losing money giving out money for sports scholarships and wouldn't give out more academic scholarships if they didn't have an athletics program. They'd just have less money overall. |

Tuesday, May 19, 2009 2:29:54 PM So then, I guess he'll be returning his Superbowl ring, too since they only gave it to him because they won the championship. What a dummo! |

Tuesday, May 19, 2009 1:22:19 PM I was astonished when I first heard about this. I thought of him as a moron. But fancy has a really good take on all of this. BUT I'm not sure if that's the sort of reason Harrison had in mind behind all of this. It doesn't help that this guy is my hero. I'm stumped. It's his choice, I guess. |

Tuesday, May 19, 2009 1:14:23 PM the reason school sports teams get money is because the schools make money off of the games. The better the team, the better the crowd, then the more tickets, food, and other stuff sold... |

Tuesday, May 19, 2009 12:28:14 PM Yes JJXanadu, it's Bush's fault. Not quite finished using him as your scapegoat for everything bad yet? |

Tuesday, May 19, 2009 12:13:59 PM This isn't refreshing. This is lame. He comes off like a stereotypical overpaid and egocentric professional athlete. |

Tuesday, May 19, 2009 12:13:09 PM "Or ya knnow redesign our school systems to prioritize education over sports."Yeah, Bush did that... it's called No Child Left Behind, and now we're left with a bunch of fat lazy kids because schools' funding goes into education and not other things like sports, arts, etc. And the kicker is, we're not any smarter, in general, than we were before... just fatter. |

Tuesday, May 19, 2009 12:06:07 PM Schools put way too much funding into sports. They're not that important. Get gear and leave it at that, you don't need a million unecessary items to play baseball. Put some back into the art program! My school's always running out of supplies and funding, while the sports teams are rolling in cash. |
