I draw the line at when it significantly compromises functionality and when it's done to children.If an adult wants to tattoo themself, scar themself, brand themself, poke holes in themself and stretch them or even cut part of their genitals off, I'll OK with that. When people do any of that to children, I am not OK with it. I'm also not OK with adults significantly compromising the functionality of their own bodies, though that's a lot less clear-cut because it conflicts with my support for personal autonomy. |

Actually this is the stuff that WAS in national geographic back in my day. It is actually very interesting and beautiful in most cases. The women and men of many tribes went to great lengths to complete their rights of passage and show pride for their people. I myself especially find beauty in body scarification. |

We think it's weird, but they don't.Many places have customs and/or ideas of beauty that would be considered weird elsewhere, or in a different time. Woad tattooes all over, for example. That weirded the Romans out when they came to Britain (and it wasn't the Scots who did it, that's just more Braveheart bull). |
