I think we should start a petition (In the US anyhow) to make it so companies can't fire you for your online activities at home. It is ridiculous. |

She lied to her employer to get out of work. It's like telling your boss you have cancer and then he sees you sitting in the stands at a baseball game from the TV in his office. It's fraud. |

If it was just once, then I don't see how that's justified.If she was doing it a bunch of times, then I can see how a warning would be appropriate, but firing, so suddenly, without warning? There must have been other problems with her, or the company is silly. |

if she truly had a migraine, any light would have killed her. they were justified. if she was too sick to work around lights, she shouldn't have been checking facebook, computer or not. if she was feeling better, perhaps she should have went in late. |

Well when i have miagranes the tinyest light is the death of me. Even if it is a tiny light from a cell phone, HOWEVER the lights in an office KILL ME. So maybe she got tired of being in bed and wanted to check her facebook. Big deal atleast she wasn't looking at it from her computer at work.Plus they are treating it as if she did something illegal at the company. I don't think she should of lost her job. That is really stupid. |

Ok if it's true what she said (that she was checking facebook on her cellphone, in bed) then there's a world of difference between that and sitting in a brightly lit office for 8 hours. I think it's ridiculous, especially if she hasn't been slacking anymore. |

lagoosie - I have worked for the post office over 20 years, and every word I said is true. AT LEAST in our area. I could prove it to you, if I wanted to lose my job. Go look at some of the postal web sites - the one's used by the workers, NOT hosted by the po. |

First of all, firing her was just a tad bit overboard. Also, her boss was probably ex-KGB or something. Spying on workers on their sick day? Come on, that's either being a stalker or working for the effing Gulag. |

@Dukat:My dad works for the Post Office as well, and he got injured on the job, and was on workers comp. NOT ONCE, did he ever get filmed. NOBODY visits the carriers either when they call in. He is a 204B now, and EVERYDAY his carriers call in, and NOBODY visits them, there are waaaay more important things to do than spy on carriers at their home; so I have no idea what you are talking about . . . |

I work for the us post office. If you call in sick to work, you may well be visited at home. (Yes, this has happened to me and others I know.) If you are on work comp, you WILL, at some point or another, be filmed. And that film may very well be edited; NOT of course, in your favor. |

You know what, you're perfectly reasonable in asserting that an Iphone screen is capable of producing as much light in 30 minutes as the (in my case) 30 halogen lightbulbs that light my office for the 10 hours a day I'm there. Oh wait, I'm confusing "Iphone" with "Sun". My bad. |
