Tuesday, March 24, 2009 1:31:37 AM > opiebreath > Does anybody remember junkyard wars? The British show where 2 teams are let loose in a junkyard that happens to have precisely what they need, and given 10 hours to build some vehicle in answer to the challenge presented to them? Nah, never heard of it. |

Tuesday, March 24, 2009 1:28:14 AM Agree totally with Angilion, its because the 3 comperes enjoy themselves and their pashion for cars so much that the show works. Recently they made an Australian version of Top Gear, with Aussie comperes, and it sucks worse than a nymphomaniac leech with a thick shake. |

Monday, March 23, 2009 2:51:55 PM "Top Gear is such an awesome show. I'd love to have that job."Part of the reason why it's so good is that the presenters do. They filmed an episode near where I live and were there for a couple of days. They genuinely enjoy making TG. It's not just an act when in front of a camera. They're like that all day. In one episode, they do a segment answering the question of how they got the job. Hammond sat at a desk talking about sheep for sale, recreating his first job (on a rural radio station). "It wasn't the best job in the world." It then switches to him powersliding a sports saloon on a beach and shouting over the engine noise "This IS the best job in the world!". It's very clear that he isn't acting. They enjoy what they do and viewers enjoy that. It's a healthy thing to be happy that other people are happy. |

Monday, March 23, 2009 2:23:39 PM "i cant believe i've never seen that show...that was awesome"You're in luck, then. The current version(*) of TG has run for 12 series, so you have over 100 episodes to watch. Most are that good. Series 12 episode 6 is free on iTunes at the moment, so you can get that legally as a taster. The "serious" review of the new UK model Ford Fiesta is good - e.g. one part of the review is to race it against a USA muscle car...inside a shopping centre (mall to USA people). Funny, and made funnier by being framed as a serious review. My favourite was the attempt to make a space shuttle from a Reliant Robin (S9E4). A laugh, but they had a serious go at it. Insane budget - it's the most powerful non-commercial rocket. * TG is 40 years old, but it was relaunched in the current style in 2001. |

Monday, March 23, 2009 1:55:18 PM "Any news on when the American version is going to launch with Adam Carolla?"It's been cancelled. The TV network backed out because if TG is done properly it's very expensive and controversial. They didn't want to make that gamble. It's a shame - I was looking forward to watching both versions. The budget has been cut on the original, too. In true TG style, they're going to make 13 of 14 episodes to current standards and cobble together an episode from leftover money :) The TG episodes on BBC USA are incomplete, because TG is an hour long *without* adverts. That doesn't fit USA TV schedules, so they have to cut stuff out. There is no legal way to watch the full episodes in the USA. However, the producer of TG knows many USA people rip off the full TG episodes and has publically invited them to continue doing so. He even reads the forums at the biggest TG torrent site (final gear) - he regards it as a good source of info about what fans think of each episode. |

Monday, March 23, 2009 11:58:55 AM Old as the hills, but you can rarely go wrong with TG. Most watched show on the planet if common knowledge is to be believed. |

Monday, March 23, 2009 11:13:15 AM It's the only reason I pay an extra 10 bucks a month for this cable package...so I can get BBC America and Top Gear. This is, without question, my favorite show on TV. Any news on when the American version is going to launch with Adam Carolla? It was supposed to come out in February. |
