Sunday, March 22, 2009 9:24:20 PM Watched the follow up vid. The wound is completely covered up with healthy skin and it appears almost back to normal (somewhat misshapen due to loss of tissue, but hell, it still looks like a heel) and she can walk around on it with no problems. Pretty crazy. |

Sunday, March 22, 2009 7:39:26 PM This is fantastic! Leeches and maggots are finally making their comebacks in modern medicine! InvaderTiger, great question. I'm glad you asked it. The reason is because the infected areas are soft since the bacteria breakdown the skin and muscle tissue. Maggots can't penetrate healthy tissue since it's so much stronger/tough. It's not painful, the only sensations the patient will feel is a slight tickle from time to time. People who wear a cast suffer more from the discomfort of itching than those under maggot, moth or leech therapies. Nature's little scrubbing grubs. :)

Sunday, March 22, 2009 5:57:51 PM IT wasn't the maggots that seemed f**ked up to me... the wound was. The skin and like 2cm of flesh were GONE! |

Sunday, March 22, 2009 4:35:06 PM Wouldn't this be just a little bit painful? I mean how do they decide what is dead and what's not? wouldn't they at least scrape the living skin? Well I dunno. I'll have to go do some research. I would not be able to sleep with those on me though *shivers* |

Sunday, March 22, 2009 1:42:11 PM coffeeDiiva: Because some people dont know whats an immature maggot and a mature maggot, if you spread mature maggots on that, the next day, if not sooner, the maggots will burrow their heads and cocoon to spread flies... |

Saturday, March 21, 2009 11:44:03 PM OK not to sound like a big deal know it all, but they only feed off the dead flesh, leaving the healthy. they have been doing it for 100s if not 1000s of years. it probably cost the hospital nothing to do it, but they charge you probably 1000s of dollars. heck grow ya own maggots lol |

Saturday, March 21, 2009 10:11:49 PM Huh. I mean, if it works, ad it's safe, it seems to be a very effective method. The only thing that would freak me out is if they would try to eat my living flesh... *shudder*But since they apparently don't....awesome! |
