mardraum: "Can't understand why they would want to live such a meaningless life."

Meh, I can. Looking at the picture of your fat-face makes me wish we were in a technological dark-age that way I never knew you existed. Unfortunately... that's just not the case. Those people in Africa are lucky in that aspect, thus they go on living. As for me, I died a little inside today.

No attack charges for Mugabe wife

Ah, how quickly we forget. Zimbabwe used to be called Rhodesia, and it was, for the most part, a British colony ruled by a white minority. It was quite prosperous and actually exported food to the rest of Africa and to Europe.

In 1980 the international community forced them to hold elections allowing the blacks to vote, and they elected Robert Mugabe. He has held power ever since.

The short version: Mugabe stole all the farms from the whites and gave them to his friends, who had no idea how to run them, and here we are today.

It would sure be nice if all the white liberals around the world who were so outraged at white minority rule could send these poor people a few crumbs.

why is there always a depression before a world war? D:

because people generally have to starve before they get desperate enough to start one.

i have to say, if it keeps up, we could see the beginings of such things.

just look at the "flow chart" here"

hunger--->desperation--->anger---->blame---->consensus of blame--->military build-up--->war

hmmm, it seems they are at a mix of the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th ones.... the 5th is not far behind, and war comes screaming in at the heels of the 6th, history will tell you.

i dont know about world war from this particular situation, but its not impossible, not by any stretch of the imagination.

sad. i thought we had really learned something from the last great world turmoil.

@Boredx12 you aint kidding Mugabe has been in and out of hospital more times than an Alzheimer patient living next to Starbucks.
Honestly though the weather there has always been too harsh to grow anything anyway.

Poor Zimbabwe :(
On the bright side, Mugabe will die before too long, and then hopefully they can have someone who actually knows how to run a country.

The situation in Zimbabwe makes me so angry. The situation in many African countries generally makes me angry - and feel hopeless, useless and incredibly guilty.

"THIS is where we are headed if we don't stop expanding credit (AKA printing money), borrowing, and spending. By "we" I mean the western world, but especially the USA."

.. Yes, if you factor in centuries of conflict, racism and widespread violence, Gukuruhundi campaigns, corrupt government, bad management, elitism, guerilla warfare, drought and an evil dictator.

Zimbabwe is not starving because of simply some bad money decisions.

You guys see this? This is called hyperinflation.

THIS is where we are headed if we don't stop expanding credit (AKA printing money), borrowing, and spending.

By "we" I mean the western world, but especially the USA.

It's awful to see how they live. I think they need a new currency, or goverment (I don't really know how it works.)
I was going to say something else, but then I started reading the racist comments on youtube and now I feel brain dead.

Just throwin it out there, but I wouldn't have minded if the UN had just decided to raise a force to invade Zimbabwe, kicked mugabe out and shoved a new government and market in there. Fine lines of opinion are one thing, but mugabe was just taking the piss. Same thing for north korea if China weren't bumming them.

who are they buying food from?
sounds like some other country is exploiting them by using them as gold miners rather than letting them do real work like farming and whatnot.

I will add that many of the people of northern Africa that live out dated, or what most americans would term primitive, live fine lives. Though their way of living is drastically different, they live well and have no real need for aid from anyone. They find work and a healthy way of living out on the plans of Africa.

Zimbabwe used to have a somewhat high standing in the world, no?

What happened?

This is my opinion, as is the opinion of some of the more "nomadic" people of Africa that live further north of the Tanzania Republic. The Tanzania government once flourished. It is said the people of Tanzania came to rely on the government too much. Once the government's economy collapsed and became poor they forgot how to live off the land. The government now can only afford little and it's farmers suffer. The people of Zimbabwe have forgotten how to be self reliant.
