I actually live in that very town, and I've been jobless since november. It's not like I've been a lazy ass, either. I'm out there everyday trying to find a job/jobs. Most places you go into in the Stark County area will just tell you that they aren't taking apps, and I've even had some tell me "If you're not buying anything, you can leave my store." A lot of employers almost seem offended when you ask, It's mighty ridiculous. I don't know if it's as bad as this video makes it out to be, but It's a mighty sh**ty situation

So - I am not reading all the comments so I'm hoping no one said this yet.

The job is paying $15.37 an HOUR?!!!!!! Wtf? To be a janitor? Our janitors probably make 8 an hour. Besides the way the economy is - the pay isn't bad either. Make that 701 applicants now. . . I work at a hospital and I don't make that much damn money an hour!

I'm not usually a skeptic, but something seems a little fishy about 700 applications. I guess its not a bad job, but still....

obviously there is more to it than what the morons in the news speak about, we are talking statistical here, you just dont receive 700 applicants like that, in the previous period you receive 500, then 600 and after that you get your 700 applications, unless of course a construction site next to the school employing 700 workers finished the job or 700 workers got fired.

We are not talking about recession here, we are talking about a statistical anomaly. Morons in the news are just trying to scare everyone.

"Kairobert: just because 700 people have jobs doesn't mean that those jobs are actually contributing any real productivity. Any "good system" (I'm assuming that by this you mean a centrally planned system) can put 700 people to work building a new office complex. What if there is no demand for that office complex?"

You are talking about Leninism, which is a poorly executed socialist system. A good (are you seriously comparing a democratically elected government to an inexperienced revolutionary totalitarian party?) socialist government would not build an office complex if there was no need for it. Instead they would divert the manpower to somewhere where they could at least do something useful instead of being treated as useless maggots. There is always a use for them. Look at your system, people are hungry because of the lack of an imaginary resource.

And drat you Anwar. I wasn't talking about a system of national coherence at all.

I'm sure it was just one dude to submitted an application 699 times.

And Lionhart, has it ever occurred to you that you're becoming a little TOO enthusiastic about this website?

You should tattoo the IAB logo to your forehead/stomach/buttocks/gooch. Then submit it. Because that would be awesome.

"im confused. i dont understand how the news finds out about such trivial events."

I agree... every time I see a weird story, like the one with the cow I wonder how the news hears about it. The other day I was thinking about something that happened at my work where a 10 year old was given alcohol, but that never made the news. Why? No one called?... who!?

yudontn0me, it's not trivial news. Things like this really ARE a way to gauge the economic crisis the country is in right now. There was a mechanic position open at a car parts place down the road from where I live a few weeks ago that got over 900 applications for one job. People are desperate for work to support their families!

im confused. i dont understand how the news finds out about such trivial events. does someone call the news to tell them they got alot of job aplications. or do they have an undercover journalist at the school like in "strangers with candy?" or did an anchor apply for the job and the principal was like "sorry man we got like 700 aplicationa already" so the newsman realized that it was his way to bring the station back to the top?

and what was up with strangers with candy? weird stuff man.

HO-LEE F&CK!!! Wow, that is amazing. I am thankful I'm not in a position of having to apply for a janitorial job. I wonder why they decided to extend the deadline with over 700 applications already? Seriously, it will take a long time to narrow it down to even 10 or 20 people. Not to put it down but it's not a hard job, they don't have to spend that much time on it.

Unless they're going for the saddest story to get some good PR, just freaking hire someone and be done with it.

Saw this in the news. We, in Ohio, aren't fairing so well economically.
