Saturday, February 28, 2009 4:49:48 PM actually the seatbelt does help. The seat belt doesn't stop you completely at first, it gives a little and even when it locks, the material is designed to stretch a little. This along with the air bag and the car crumple zones etc. increases the amount of time it takes for the person to slow down, thereby reducing the force on the person: (as you have stated) F= ma a= (v-u)/t Therefore: F= m[(v-u)/t] So the force on the body is less (and so organs would probably not be damaged so much) |

Saturday, February 28, 2009 1:26:06 PM F=ma...They need to rethink their propaganda on this one. His organs would still be moving even with a seat belt. Having his body halted more abruptly with a seat belt seems as if it would jar the organs more than by hitting a relatively softer air bag which would reduce his body's forward momentum a little slower. In their scenario, the outcome would be the same. There would still be rapid deceleration of the body while the lungs and heart still move forward. It doesn't matter what stops you- a dash board or a seat belt if your argument is that organs still moving forward and rupturing the rib cage cause the damage. Just as in the US, seat belt propaganda seems to serve the government's piggy bank (in the form of fines) more than it does saving people from injury or death. |

Saturday, February 28, 2009 11:40:41 AM Definitely needs to be shown in America. As I've said before on other videos like this, I was never told about things like this involved in car accidents. All these kids think that the chances of them hitting the windshield or dying on impact are slim, so they'll live. They dont consider the other things that happen during accidents. |

Saturday, February 28, 2009 6:34:41 AM How is this disturbing? I literally had a 2 hour standoff with a friend the other day. She refused to buckle up, and I refused to drive, we were headed to a movie. She is my brothers girlfriend, and even he was pleading with her to buckle up but she refused. She thinks "seatbelts don't do anything but make the car ride uncomfortable." Needless to say, we missed the movie. Maybe if she had grown up on ads like this she wouldn't be such an idiot. |

Saturday, February 28, 2009 4:57:21 AM this video works because it's a schock tactic. I've heard stories of kids who run across the street without looking being shown scenes of accidents when someone has been hit by a car to stop them from doing it, and it works. Surely it's better to have nightmares for a few weeks than to lose the rest of your life because of a stupid mistake |

Friday, February 27, 2009 9:45:49 PM I agree with Marcko98, I wouldn't say that it was too gory to be shown to kids.If the ads were too soft, then kids wouldn't take them as seriously, if the're just toned down and made to be sweet, the message it puts across isn't going to instantly be 'Not wearing a seatbelt is bad' Something like this though, would stick in your head. |

Friday, February 27, 2009 8:14:48 PM I kept expecting the end of the commercial to say "Don't be a Dick. Wear a seatbelt" |

Friday, February 27, 2009 6:28:17 PM this commercial, really isn't all too gory or scary. i think it does a helluva lot better job at getting the message through compared to those canadian commercials. |
