Wednesday, February 25, 2009 7:02:22 PM the thing is she's not ugly in the face, has a beautiful smile and eyes, so modeling agencies would swoop her up quick, especially if she is like 5"11, they love that. I am glad for her, she is eating again, but why can't she have pasta and rice again? |

Wednesday, February 25, 2009 5:49:05 PM Actually, clinical obesity is not defined as "100 pounds over weight". Clinical obesity is defined by your BMI. If you have a BMI over 30 you are clinically obese, no matter how short or tall you are or how much excess weight you have. A woman standing 5'3 and weighing 180 pounds is clinically obese. A woman standing 5'7 and weighing 237 pounds is also clinically obese. Morbid obesity is a BMI of anything over 40. If you're 5'8 and weigh 290 lbs, you are morbidly obese. If you're 5'4 and weigh 240 lbs, you are morbidly obese. Obesity is not determined by being "100 pounds" over weight. |

Wednesday, February 25, 2009 1:27:51 PM PSA for anyone posting here who is battling anorexia. I asked a specialist to offer me some resources to pass on to you. He said to google "anti-anorexia league" and start with the links that are obviously connected with the international organization and David Epston, who is the main coordinator of this archive. It leads to an interactive exchange with the stories of many women of all ages and experiences -- and some men and boys -- who have helped each other defeat anorexia. Hope it helps anyone who can use it. |

Wednesday, February 25, 2009 9:04:03 AM @Opie "Good freaking god, so many of you who have obviously never experienced this have such closed minds."Agreed. It makes me so angry when people say these things. Yeah obesity AND anorexia are done by the people to themselves, but anorexia is an awful mental problem, I don't like calling it a disease because to me a disease is like malaria etc. but all the same. My friend looks horrific, I want to tell her, but the way their minds work, she's think I was saying she looked awful because she was FAT. But if I said, she looks nice to try and stop her from doing it, to let her see she's gone too far, she'll think I don't but if I lose more, maybe I will. It's a horrible horrible thing to live with and people like this Aramil You know what I think of Anorexics? drat 'em. Rich white chicks don't want to eat? Let 'em starve. REALLY f*** me off.
@ marencolleen - I hope you manage to find it in yourself to see that you are beautiful no matter what. |

Wednesday, February 25, 2009 5:46:06 AM This would have made me feel bad if it wasn't for Steve.(It still made me feel sympathetic though. I know what it's like to suffer a mental disorder. Not as bad, but still.) |

Wednesday, February 25, 2009 3:49:32 AM That is so unfortunate, I have a very good friend from france who was the same way until her family moved here. From what she told me it is normal to be ultra skinny in France. Obese is 100 lbs. more than your average weight, morbidly obese is 150 lbs over the average. In my opinion most middle aged women look better with some meat on the bones. It definately makes you look younger. Im fat and 31. Most people think I look about 19 in person and I love it. |

Tuesday, February 24, 2009 11:13:09 PM I don't think I'd refer to anorexia as a disease, either. It certainly is a horrible psychological disorder which - when unaddressed - progresses into a physical disorder as well. Zombiemike--try eating some fruits and vegetables mixed in with all those carbs and fats too, man. You need vitamins to aid your body in directing nutrient absorbtion, and healthy sources of protein with fiber as well ...to keep all that stuff from just sliding through your system. |

Tuesday, February 24, 2009 9:56:31 PM And addler you know most people don't become anorexic on purpose right? It usually starts out as something else that completely spirals out of control. for me i started trying the atkins diet but somehow in my mind i kept excluding certain foods one by one because in my head it just made sense. I lost weight rapidly and no one really noticed until one day i woke up with a painful sore on my back from my shoulder blade scraping against my skin. I was cold constantly and my hair was falling out but even when i WANTED to eat i would look at the food and feel sick. It was like some weird messed up connection, my mind wanted me to reject the food even though my body wanted it. My family would force me to sit down and eat a whole bowl of pasta even though i'd feel like puking. Seriously just shut up because you have no idea what it is like. |

Tuesday, February 24, 2009 9:49:35 PM Anorexia is such a terrible disease. I suffered from it when I was 12 years old but never got down to that extreme. The lowest weight i got to was about 95 when my healthy weight should have been about 120-125. Luckily i got help but the recovery was difficult. Just looking at food was nauseating. |

Tuesday, February 24, 2009 8:43:41 PM if this was the flip side and the girl was a morbidly obese (say, 5'7 and 230 pounds) --------------------------------I find this kinda interesting. I'm not stating my exact weight, but I weigh over 200lbs and I don't feel like I'm morbidly obese at all. I don't feel unhealthy, and I don't really look morbidly obese either, and I know other girls who are the same way. I consider someone 300+lbs (depending on height, of course) to be morbidly obese. But I'm glad this girl is trying to get help. She can have some of my fat. =D |

Tuesday, February 24, 2009 8:08:05 PM Addler, you don't know a goddamn thing. Do the internet a favor and next time the light bulb in your head flickers for a brief moment, keep your pre-pubescent mouth shut. |

Tuesday, February 24, 2009 6:47:38 PM addler, I think you might understand better if you were a woman. There are women and especially young girls who think that acceptance comes in the form of a thin body (thank you, Milan's high fashion shows and Hollywood's stick thin actresses). It's a psychological disorder on a much deeper level than you're giving credit. And once a girl/woman gets stuck, like adarling said, it becomes an addiction. |

Tuesday, February 24, 2009 5:59:24 PM nope, still not givin her an ounce of sympathy, disease or not (im calling weak on the disease call even if it is one ill rank it right up there w/ Tourettes and prolly stick w/ calling it a disorder)besides, if ur gonna concede that one then you have to concede obesity and its much better to go off saying both of em are BS and a waste of life and food than accepting either one. its just that after seeing so many people struggling with much more serious diseases and disorders, seeing this makes me think "boo hoo rich white girl thinks shes fat/ugly, maybe they will show a clip of her throwing up a weeks worth of food!" |

Tuesday, February 24, 2009 5:52:25 PM addler... it's a disease whether you think so or not. it's an addiction. it's an awful experience, which i have gone through myself. it's the hardest thing that i have ever done... you're incredibly ignorant and closed-minded, i must say. i can't even begin to explain to you what it's like. just know that it's not just something that happens. ask anyone who's been through it or has had someone close to them go through it. |
