Tuesday, February 10, 2009 2:41:05 PM No no no.. this will not do. even if it was a hella powerfull battery, the dc from it will stop at the transformer in the power supply, get hot and possibly catch fire. So put your car batteries back where they belong people. |

Tuesday, February 10, 2009 6:06:04 AM To everyone who thinks you can make a taser from a battery:Yes, this is technically true, but you can't just strap some electrodes to the ends of a AA and think you can shock some people. Actual tazers have one or more types of voltage boosting circuit in them to step up the voltage to a typical of 50kV (that's 50,000V to those of you who think this vid is legit), and I've seen them up to 1MV (1,000,000V; which won't kill you under a few mA [milliamps], but I'd imagine to be VERY painful). Excuse my nerdraging. It's 6AM and I'd normally be going to bed around this hour, not waking up. |

Tuesday, February 10, 2009 6:03:11 AM ...The number of people who seem to think this will work is...just...:|. (1) The battery is the wrong kind of voltage source. TVs run off AC, a battery produces DC. While some TVs with relatively low power consumption (if LCD/plasma; all CRTs need the AC to power their flyback transformers) use a switching power supply that can be run off a DC source, (2) the battery is a nominal 1.5V (if alkaline) and probably is around 1.7V fresh. The average TV is rated to run off of 120V, and 240V if you live in Europe or something. (3) Even if the battery WAS of the proper voltage and current type, I only know of ONE of that would be capable of providing enough raw power to the TV, and it's a lithium battery made by Saft for NASA (which could only power the TV for a few seconds before it starts to overheat). |

Tuesday, February 10, 2009 5:20:52 AM and bob, yes, your absolutely right, a tazer made from a regular battery can kill. when i was in high school, we had a kid in my electronics class who made a "frog killer" that was basically a watch battery attached to 2 needles..... it would fry the damn things... a bit cruel, but i have to admit, fun to watch him pop the giant frogs we get in florida |

Tuesday, February 10, 2009 5:17:05 AM i call fake here... and i rarely do that. but a tv uses AC voltage @59.98 bateries are DC, and therefore no sine.you'll never even get power to the capacitors, theres an A/C rectifier that wont let it go past.. and if it did, a AAA battery would not have the juice to get the capacitor charged enough to "light" the tube. |

Tuesday, February 10, 2009 4:45:02 AM Also I would advise against anyone making improvised tasers, because it takes a surprisingly small amount of current to stop a person's heart. Something in the region of 0.1 - 0.5A.As our Power Engineering lecturer used to tell us: "volts jolt, but mills kill" [mills = milliamps] |

Tuesday, February 10, 2009 4:41:30 AM "What this video didn't tell you is that while it is theoretically possible, it would run for like 2 seconds."Sorry Lion, but it isn't theoretically possible at all. All TVs have AC rectifiers inside them. If you apply DC power to an AC input, nothing will happen, not even for 2 seconds. |

Monday, February 09, 2009 11:29:09 PM Would have been a lot more impressive if he used something tiny, maybe a clock radio or something that would work for longer than 5 seconds. He could have just said it would also work for a tv... for 5 seconds. |

Monday, February 09, 2009 11:14:31 PM That would work for about 30 seconds. |

Monday, February 09, 2009 9:37:14 PM Yeah sure you could use it as a taser JumboCookie, a 1.5 volt taser! You can just feel a slight tingle when you stick your tongue on a 9 volt battery, 1.5 isn't going to knock anything down. Electricity is a function of Amps and Volts, the more amps you need, the less effective that little 1.5v thing will be. What this video didn't tell you is that while it is theoretically possible, it would run for like 2 seconds. See this link for more info. |

Monday, February 09, 2009 8:26:11 PM Even though this doesn't work, couldn't you use this as a mini taser? Like, just tape the battery in, and touch the other two sides on one person?Just wondering... |

Monday, February 09, 2009 5:54:45 PM this is the dumbest thing i have ever seen 1st a tv runs of 110vac a battery is 1.5vdc 2nd the amount of amperage would not even be enough to run a flashlight for 10 seconds whoever thinks this would work should lick the outlet because they have no clue of how electronics works DUMBEST VIDEO EVER

Monday, February 09, 2009 5:49:41 PM Khast: "Well, I don't think that will work...you will have to use a taquito, the consistency of the burrito won't give you the right frequencies. Unless you use a salsa converter of course..."I tried that but it created a phase variance in the cat litter causing the salsa converter to lose attenuation. When will people learn that for every 1 viral that's real, there's 99999999999999 fakes. 'cept for my burrito receiver of course. |
