The team that did that are currently making the SSC 'Bloodhound', a Euro-Fighter engined vehicle capable (in theory) of 1,000mph. And it's all British.

What about the team that beat them two weeks later? Their record has stood for 12 years.

The wind doesn't have to exceed the speed of the vehicle to assist it.

Wind assisted? Is this strange to anyone else? In order for it to be wind assistedthe winds with wouldve had to be traveling faster than 714 miles per hour to give it any thrust from behind.

What they should have siad was to make sure there wasnt as much wind resistance

i can remember watching this on tv, and being absolutely stunned.

if anyone is interested, the same team are going to break the record again with their new "Bloodhound SSC" which they are expecting to travel at 1000mph.
