Tuesday, February 03, 2009 2:59:37 AM right. the is only a small amount of exsplosives used to cause the blade to detatch. the resulting fire ball is just a biproduct of this and dosnt actualy have huge effects on the experement(just cause because the is unconbusted fuel in the engine). the testis is usualy done to see that the shell of the engine can contain the blades when they become detached, whatever causees the detachment(bird stike, poor maintance, ware). no one wants a compresor blade flying through the hull of the aeroplane. those things travel pritty fast. p.s im studying aerospace engineering. im not just making this stuff up |

Tuesday, February 03, 2009 1:16:57 AM I fail to see how exploding a jet engine on purpose makes any of them safer. What I mean is how many jet engines have been sabotaged by explosives ? I'd bet zero. If the point of the test was to see how a blade detachment effects the engine, Explosives weren't needed to test that. I don't believe a jet engine could be engineered to survive that kind of test. |
