The amount of medical ignorance being slopped around here is astounding.

There's no moral justification for the war on drugs. Prohibition doesn't work. It just costs money and creates a criminal black market.

It's really that simple.

I think SarahJ86 was trying to say that we should have never started out with legal alcohol.. if we could have gone back to the beginning and just never got our country into the whole alcohol deal then people would have no legal alcohol to miss really. And we could just substitute alcohol for weed :P

i've always thought the exact same things. i could go into even more detail though and make it not as boring as this guy. he also left out many other topics of mention. he just talked about crime but if it was legal than it would also help economy which is the sole fact that should be talked about. if legal than purchase would be taxed and small proceeds would go to the government which would in the end help economy

I actually had a dream about this! In my dream you had to have a special license to grow the stuff and whoever had the license ended up getting robbed anyways! Yeah, that was after the swimming pools in fast food places...

Legalize it
That way they can regulate it to save a few Columbians + so you dont end up with mebbe 5% actual drugs + 16% toilet cleaner, 20% rat poison etc etc etc

You guys can legalise it and we'll send you all our druggies!

If only. I think the problem in America is that these rules have been in place long enough that the government feels like if they give them up they'll be failing themselves. Pure bullheadedness. They don't want to give it up because they think it will make them look weak.

Legalize it, tax it, and give it the same laws as smoking and drinking.

"There aren't enough people who would smoke it for it to be profitable for anyone to sell it. That's why the govt. hasn't legalized it."

Completely disagree, there is alot of tax money to be made that will directly be taken out of the pockets of large illegal operations. Tax it like smokes and beer. Living in the 'green triangle', it would generate tons of revune for a badly hurting north california.

The Govenators been pushing 'green energy' in california real hard, here's something else green that can make some green.

Im all about walking out of walmart with toilet paper, diapers, and an ounce.

"Personally.. if we could go back however many decades, and start afresh I think the best thing to do would be to ban alcohol, and legalise cannabis. Alcohol is much worse IMO. But it couldnt happen,"

Sarah, you DO KNOW that alcohol WAS banned for 12 years or so in the 1920's in America, right? It was a miserable failure!

almost every country in the world has more lenient view on marijuana use. i am the president of SADD (students against destructive decisions) and i DO believe that weed being legalized would help overall with the justice system and it would also help the economy, although not a HUGE amount, but still it would help quite a bit.

hey i love to get high too Shadowspell but in reality a lot of things are escapism. its not necessarily a negative category and we all need some form of escape and its natural. but things that are escapist have to be dealt with carefully, that's all. you can get lost.

I have nothing to escape from in life, amagdrinker, but I smoke pot all the time. Don't put all of us in the "need-to-escape-by-drugs" column, some just like the high.

you dont have to like pot to want to support the legalization of it.. it could bring sh/t loads of tax money in for our gov't, or spread love and happiness at the same time

but on the other hand, i DO like pot haha and it would be sick if i didnt have to hide it. but even then i'd probably have to be over 18 or some sh/t

drugs are not good, just a form of escapism, so i have trouble vehemently supporting them, but this guy makes some very solid points. i wonder if more people's lives are ruined by the war on drugs or by the drugs themselves? i really don't think i know the answer to that.

Obama's already trying to dig himself out of the last administrations' messes without making any of his own - and this would be a very controversial move, and not well-received by the public.

Although I think medicinal marijuana should be legal, I don't think it's going to happen until more attitudes toward it change. Remember, any major law has to be approved by a sheaf of people before it gets anywhere.
