Monday, January 26, 2009 1:10:29 PM The difference between torture and interrogation is that cooperating and truth telling stop things from happening to you when you are interrogated, not when you are being tortured. To me everything that was going on was interrogation. |

Monday, January 26, 2009 7:42:26 AM WAKE UP PEOPLE!!!#1 -- The reason they were put in Cuba was so they would not fall under the American Constitution. No due process, no speedy trial, none of "our" rights...remember, these people are literally dying to kill ANY non-muslim, American or not.... #2 -- Where are these people going? Um, maybe from the reasonable protection of the US military to a country where they will be seriously tortured and killed. Say "I'm sorry Cuba, your island isn't nice enough for our detainees, we're taking them somewhere else." Doesn't matter though, this is just a political move to please the base....Executive orders can take months to be carried out, if they aren't overturned first... |

Sunday, January 25, 2009 11:31:38 AM The problem with Guantanamo Bay comes down to this, at least for me. Torture automatically assumes that a suspect is guilty, and that if you keep torturing them they will tell the truth. Torture completely ignores the "innocent until proven guilty" axiom, so if a prisoner really is innocent they're still screwed. Prisoners will do anything to get released, even falsely confessing. People in Gitmo have even confessed to things that didn't happen, like assassinating George W. Bush. Torture is effective at getting answers from people, but it has nothing to do with finding the truth. Sorry for the essay, but it's something I've thought about quite a bit. |

Sunday, January 25, 2009 9:15:47 AM Good! This is great news. For all the people wondering where will all the suspected terrorists go, well, they aren't getting let loose, on the streets. They are going to other countries, where our military will keep with them. When our gov. put the suspected terrorists in GITMO, they put them there with out trial, without the access to a lawyer, and without a conviction. This stands against EVERYTHING America was made for. In America, EVERYONE, terrorist, or not, has the right to a fair trial. |

Saturday, January 24, 2009 9:47:42 PM I agree with Sixclaws, there's a difference between being prepared and going to hide in a bomb shelter. You don't just walk out into a street with your eyes closed and "hope for the best", you look both ways and know what's coming at you first. |

Saturday, January 24, 2009 4:13:21 PM Slightly off topic here, but I hink of all the people who think the Government just "makes people dissapear" and such. But then I read stuff like this and think, if there is anyone we would "want to make dissapear" before they cause a problem... it's this guy. And yet we are just letting him walk. This guy just might become the next Bin Ladin...Terrorist walks |

Saturday, January 24, 2009 3:24:23 PM I dont agree with it closing one bit. But me and my friend both thought up that if they get set in to general population prisons and when they get there they are going to get their asses beat which is ten times worse then getting their head dumped in to water. her step dad has been there an said that guatanamo bay is a cake walk compared to most prisons they are babied while they are there, in prison they wont be |

Saturday, January 24, 2009 1:42:56 PM "All in all talcumx you have two choices: you could go into a bomb shelter and forget about everybody. or you could stfu and hope for the best. BTW its time to let the next generation take over so get out of the way."If that's the attitude of my generation then drat it, I'm going to go live in a nursing home. |

Saturday, January 24, 2009 1:04:09 PM "Well Talkum, true or not, we have to take risk hoping for the best, we cant live our lives grabbing on to a gun and hiding in a corner." I don't hide in a corner, I live a full and happy life. I just don't do it with my head up my ass. Good luck. |

Saturday, January 24, 2009 10:18:23 AM Well, the thing is that there really are some dangerous individuals being held in Gitmo, and we can't just release them and hope for the best from them. We have to get proper trials going that are fair and politically independent and then worry about where to house those proven guilty of terrorism. |

Saturday, January 24, 2009 10:00:21 AM This being his first move as pres. completely banished all my doubts FOREVER. And he's re-clasifing torture, so no more waterboarding :):):) A nice victory for human rights, I say. |

Saturday, January 24, 2009 8:45:40 AM splurbyburbl: It's fairly obvious he meant the "detention camp" prison part of Gitmo, not the entire naval base. And the prison only opened there in 2002, so it WAS Bush. |

Saturday, January 24, 2009 8:37:26 AM Guantanamo is just the tip of the iceberg.. if he adheres to the Geneva Conventions then we'll have something to celebrate. |
