Saturday, August 15, 2009 8:00:02 PM "those skinny little male egg-layers will not put on a great deal of weight"Might want to rethink your "Male Egg Layer" theory... I know it's august and nobody will ever read this, but whatever. |

Saturday, January 31, 2009 11:02:15 PM K, why they get rid of male chicks: There are 2 kinds of chickens in the commercial industry. Egg layers and meat chickens. Meat chickens are, well, meaty while egg chickens are skinny because they have been bred to have most of their nutrients go to making eggs at the rate of 2 every three days. Meats might lay 50 a year tops, so their energy goes to meat. Now, those skinny little male egg-layers will not put on a great deal of weight and will result in lost profit, so they are killed outright or sold as "bargain chicks". They taste no different. For the "meat is bad" debate, I think what would solve alot of problems is if people ate less in general. We can all agree most people eat WAY more than they should. Decrease meat intake, and there will be no need for factory farms, as they would become ineffective at processing only a few hundred chicks a day. Less ethical problems, less obesity, increased food for the rest of the world. Problem solved. |

Friday, January 30, 2009 10:23:32 PM I started laughing when they put them on the conveyor that separates the chicks from the shells. It's not outright funny, but it's hilarious in an "OMG are you serious?" sort of way. |

Monday, January 26, 2009 12:13:39 PM Eating meat is natural. It's just the way we treat them. In the wild, it's usually quick and painless. |

Friday, January 23, 2009 11:42:53 PM There are some species of birds where the chicks have to fall off a cliff when they're still young. (I can't remember the name, saw it on animal planet) Their down feathers are actually really protective, so the little tumbles that these chicks make aren't really that bad. |

Friday, January 23, 2009 9:14:44 PM Okay, I love animals and don't think that they deserve treatment like this. I hate the fact that some animals spend their whole life being raised for slaughter, which I find horrible. Those chicks were being tossed around like they were plastic toys, not real live chicks. I've tried being a vegetarian but ended up passing out after a week. Then I found out that I have weird blood sugar and that I do need to eat meat. So I tried drinking/eating more protein foods that weren't meat and was pale, had headaches and headrushes whenever I stood up. So, I started eating meat again and it stopped. I always encourage people to be vegetarians because I hate the treatment of animals that we use for meat but I just can't do it myself and I always feel really guilty when I watch videos like this |

Friday, January 23, 2009 7:37:58 PM Humans have SO many alternatives nowadays and I think we have evolved to the point where we don't need to rely on other animals for clothing, meat, eggs, milk, etc. Seriously, what gives humans the right have control of all these animals are use them for meat, eggs, milk, clothes, and pretty much ANYTHING they want? |

Friday, January 23, 2009 7:25:51 PM That was funny. It really doesn't seem to bother the chicks tho. They like it, actually. Being tossed around and dropped through belts. You can see it in their faces "Weeehoo!" |
