hmmm. this reminds me of all the "black" jokes i know.

i just don't like how they talk about it like its a disease.=.= it implies that it can be "fixed" with a one fix solution when in reality its not going to be as simple as taking the blue pill to forget.

Why do people have a problem with a person just cause of there race? Its not a big frickin deal if someone is colored! People are just that stupid to focus on race i guess...

Race will stop being an issue when we stop celebrating that it isn't an issue anymore.

Sorax, I agree with you. I always thought racism was a conscious belief in the superiority/inferiority in one or more races.

FlameofUdun...you are aware that Africa isn't a country right? And if you're gonna get on blacks, why not get on Irish Americans, Italian Americans or ANY hyphenated Americans.

if black ppl don't want us to be racist against them, then they should stop stealing our stuff.

Sorax3 seems to understand the theory,as it's really based on '8 out of 10 cats prefer...'

Isn't racism basically an opinion formed against a race though? Its more of an opinion thing if you ask me. Its the same as saying "Researchers try to change your favorite colour"

Max Normal, you obviously do not live in Blackburn;I DO,so would you please stop using sweeping generalised 'Panorama'-based statements that have absolutely no basis in fact.
Yes,Blackburn IS somewhat divided between English and Pakistani, but it is nothing like you describe.
It would seem that the media are hell-bent on creating the supposed divide. The reason is that it sells papers, mate!
I'm mixed-race(English-Jamaican) and have lived here since I was 3 months old and I am aware of most things that occur in my town. Rarely have I ever found a white Xenophobic on ANY level; If you had bothered to do your research, you would have found that the BNP are not very popular in Blackburn simply because they cause more problems that they actually solve.
If you are going to make inane comments about certain places in the UK,perhaps you should have chosen Burnley...Go do the suggested research and see what I mean...

Why do they insist on being called "African American"? That is where we should start. If you don't have citizenship in BOTH COUNTRIES you may not be called "African American".

I don't beelieve racism really exsists any more (although I do feel some black people have true racist feelings) I think we have culturism. I like people who in general I feel I have commonaity with. This is reguardless of the color of their skin. I do however have negative emotions about those I feel have little in common with me or if I do not understand/disagree with their values.

Problem is, racism is not always just about the colour of peoples skin. Take Blackburn, UK for instance. half the population are pretty tough northern English white guys who like a drink and are descended from people who have lived their for thousands of years so are more than a bit xenophobic, the other half are muslim recent immigrants (over the last 50 years), many with extreme Wahhabi viewpoints who think that all christians and atheists are infidel scum, and should be treated as such. Both sides are extremely racist, and for very different reasons, and the colour of the skin serves only as a badge of identity, not in any way a major source of the problem. This research is a nice idea, but way, way off the mark. If you want to end racism, end religion first, and national or regional identity second.

Reminds me of my secondary school science teacher. He was always going on about 'not being able to tell the difference between different people'. RUBBISH! I've never had any trouble, or rather - I have the same trouble with everyone. I'm not very good at telling similar people apart of any skin tone.

This made me think of that book called The giver or something like that. Which was about a world where the people have used science to make a "perfect world" where there was no hate or war and the such.

"Yeah, isn't racism just ignorance. You can't be so ignorant and know that you need help. Just doesn't work like that. "

If racism were simply ignorance, then we have some pretty crappy compulsory education systems.

"The entire idea of neural plasticity is a new one. We didn't think that the brain was capable of change as we now know it to be,"

free will motherf*ckers, genetics can bite my ass.

and as for the rest of this article, science is not stumbling onto something new. this type of recognition of all others being equal to yourself is inherent to most prominent philosophies and religions. despite what many people believe, science will not save the world.

and people talking about social sciences and how we fill cultural roles and how that is somehow in our genes, recognize the fact that as an individual it is possible to reject culture.

Did anyone else glean that they were also trying to reduce fear?

I hate to sound like a complete nerd but Star Wars had a good quote.

Fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering.

So by not being afraid of each other, we probably would reduce hate by an astounding amount.
