I don't know why, these types of videos always scare me, just a bit. It's completely stupid.
On the other hand... sometimes they kill my writer's block! Thanks strange video!

I saw the "shift happens" powerpoint aswell. Its shocking, but it means we can achieve more in a shorter amount of time. In contrast, the number of problems that will arise will follow the same trend.

Who knows, countries might be fighting in cyberspace wars in 100 years? Penetrating the core of their intelligence and locking down their computer systems.

There is no way a computer can exceed the human computational capabilities, because our brain works in a way that is unique and cannot be reached by any technical means. Computing is something that is really hard to explain, really. The numbers we have right now are not enough to satisfy the scientific needs of todays' science. Having a number like 3.1415926535897932384626433832795 isn't really helpfull when you try to find how long it will take for a wheel to stop spinning, yet computers can find it, but still, it isn't completely accurate. But if something isn't perfect, then it is worse than the human equivalent.

I know they cited their source, but still, this is a blatant rip-off of shift happens. Two years later and they didn't even bother to see if the numbers had changed. Sad, really.

I dont understand.. How about you stop worrying about this cr/ap and just continue living your life. If by the end of your life all you worried about was education, technology, global disasters, and your retirement plan, then what was the point? If you aren't reasonably happy the whole time what did you spend your life doing?
oh and philosophical bullsh/t aside: i liked how they used a quantity of people for the market audience rather than the percent of people it was available to. Seeing as the population was already "exponential" i'd be more worried if the market audiences for these things WEREN'T achieved way faster than their predecessors. This video sacrificed validity for emotional impact and its disappointing because it started out looking like a great video.

They didn't say that computers will be "smarter" than humans. They said that processing capabilities will be greater than ours - and that is totally expected.

Sadly, intelligence cannot be created/programmed (at least with our current technology). AI doesn't count because it's an algorithm.

That was probably the most interesting video i've seen all day haha

Oh;
Percent of English Speaking people per country:

United States: 89.33%
China: 0.77%
India: 10.66%

Fabricated facts FTL.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_cou...

----

You took the fact in the wrong direction. By the most english speaking country in the world it meant population. While the United states is 89% the US population is roughly 305,500,00 (rounded down). China's is 1.3 billion. So taking the numbers into hand.

89% of 305.5 million is 271,895,000 english speaking people.

.77% of 1.3 billion is 10,010,000.

This number is expected to skyrocket in the next decade with english becoming the majority language for world trade.
Besides that wikipedia fact sheet is out of date by 9 years. the data is from 2000.

The facts aren't false they're predicted. Stop screaming "FALSE INTRANETZ!!"

The "Computers will be smarter than humans" statement is a total crock.

Computers can perform arithmetic using very little processing power, and some humans may struggle at doing that.

On the other hand, humans can recognize faces, which is extremely complex for a machine to do.

Basically, its apples and oranges. Computers are already better at some things, and probably won't be completely better for a very long time.

sweet vid, repo, but sweet. i have forgotn about everything i just saw, but i was amazed :D

im going to continue on habbazoot. and this is just fyi.

when ice melts, it melts from the inside first, OK? so what happends is that greenland becomes a giant pool, when the walls PHAIL, it will unleash massive amounts of water into the ocean, probably freezing down the golf stream. this means big time ice age for Norway.

"I was hoping it would say something about the fact that Ice displaces the exact same amount of water that it contains, so if the ice caps melted it would have absolutely no effect on the Earth's water level."

This is why I'm confused that everyone is panicking about the ice caps melting. >_<"

when they talk about ice melting, theyre talking about stuff like Greenland, which is a huge land mass covered by tons of ice. if that melts, we're screwed
