Monday, February 16, 2009 6:56:10 PM why do americans have a love affair with the toilets on tour buses? people from the u.k will go days on a tour bus and not use the on board toilet once. |

Monday, January 05, 2009 11:59:50 AM Well... that's true, some people carry BIG F*CKING Backpacks with them, i think that's the easiest way to identify a tourist.. or that's what i think |

Thursday, January 01, 2009 2:50:32 AM @tiggerwitch1: In Germany, just as an example, it's considered rude to sit at the table and have only the fork in your hand. Well, the younger ones do that, but they are kids and so that's ok. But you do use always fork and knive, fork left and kinve right. You'll never get, let's say, a salad (which you could eat just with your fork) served only with fork, but always with fork and knive. And you use both. That's considered basic manners 101. Simply as that.In traditional China you never pick up again what's been falling down on your plate. That's you personal dish-trash... Elderly people will be disgusted if you will pick up. In Benin you'll hide your left had and don't show it while eating. Different cultures, different ways to go. |

Wednesday, December 31, 2008 1:24:05 PM In the U.S. you can tell who is a European tourist just by their terrible body odor. Somebody should inform the people of Europe that there's this thing called "deodorant" and that it goes under your arm. Wear it! And they might want to take some back to their countries too. I've been to Madrid, Paris and London and God forbid anyone raises their arms or removes their coat. The stench is unbearable. I know it is not that Europeans don't bathe because you can't smell them just by standing next to them but if they move their arms RUN! The worst part is on the airplane when everyone is storing/getting their luggage from the overhead compartments. There is no escape and you can only hold your breath for so long. |

Wednesday, December 31, 2008 3:34:47 AM I think this would've offended less people if it was done more as a comedic "typical American tourists are like this..." thing as opposed to telling you how to avoid looking like one, as though it's a bad thing (aside when trying to avoid offending people etc). There are typical tourists EVERYWHERE. As a Brit I could list the typical British tourists too, from those wearing shorts and t-shirts when the people in Florida are wearing gloves and scarves, to the football-strip wearing blokes and their skanky wives in Spain who just get drunk everywhere and only eat British food etc etc. |

Tuesday, December 30, 2008 9:12:15 PM In my few experiences of travelling abroad (Canada and Italy), I tried to fit in with the locals enough to not draw an excessive amount of attention to myself. However, most of my trip I was in a marching band uniform, so that didn't really help with fitting in. Mostly I found that by dressing a little nicer than usual, I fit in or was accepted pretty well. Really, I didn't do much else. I still took pictures (though I definitely didn't wear my camera around my neck) and I had my fork in my right hand. I think the biggest idea when travelling to a different county is to be respectful of their culture and to represent your own well. |

Tuesday, December 30, 2008 9:04:16 PM "I hate obnoxious tourists. I live near Pensacola Beach and there are some very annoying tourists that show up to flock to the beach. How hard is it to not be obnoxious when visiting somewhere?" Me too. I live in San Diego, right near the beach- so I know how you feel. |

Tuesday, December 30, 2008 8:19:56 PM Yeah, this is TRUE! One HUGE thing they forgot to put down is that ,for whatever reason, DO NOT wear your "Visiting" countries flag. In some places wearing a symbol, logo,or a picture of that nations flag is A HUGE offense. That SCREAMS "I'm a flippin' tourist", it's like...Why not hang a HUGE billboard saying in fluorescent colors : "I'm a tourist, mug me!", with flashing lights. :D |

Tuesday, December 30, 2008 6:41:30 PM Reading this makes me want to back to New Zealand. I was apart of a student ambassador group so it was hard not to look like tourists when we had to travel in a group of 50 and wear lanyards. But a friend and I did stay with a boy our age and shadowed him at school. The weirdest part was the sex-ed. Imagine two American girls in a office with 12 kiwi boys talking about sex and the different perceptions our cultures have. Basically we were teenagers- we all wanted it. |

Tuesday, December 30, 2008 6:20:18 PM For tourists coming to the States. Go where you like. Have a lot of fun enjoying our cultural and geographic diversity. And spend lots of money, the economy is in the crapper. Cheers! |
