Monday, August 17, 2009 11:50:03 PM "um, no touchdown, he wasn't in the end zone..... and depending on how you look at it, he never got the yard because he was never in control."I am sorry, but no. First of all, as long as the ball doesn't touch the ground and you are inbounds, you can gain control at any time (even if you are on your back). Secondly, you are right, the receiver was not in the end zone WHEN HE WAS HIT. However, he also did not have control of the ball at that time either. When the receiver was laid out, it propelled him into the end zone onto his back. When the ball came back to him and he, along with the defenders, caught the ball, he was clearly in the end zone. In such cases of possession of a catch by both teams, the catch is deferred to the offence on the field. Therefore, the referee makes the correct call when he signals the touchdown. Sorry for the excessively long comment. |

Sunday, November 23, 2008 7:58:30 PM Wasn't an unbelievable catch, neither was the tackler spearing. It was a nice hit and a lucky recovery. |

Sunday, November 23, 2008 12:18:34 PM 1.yes when its JUST helmet to helmet like spearing 2.in the vid i wouldnt call that exactly spearing(thats just my opinion though) 3when the hell do you EVER see a helmet to helmet call when the carrier isnt a quarterback?? like 70% of all tackles would be penalties if they called it that strictly ESPECIALLY tons of hits by DB's |

Sunday, November 23, 2008 4:26:01 AM How many people would be conscious after a hit like that ? Then have the awareness to tip and grab the ball ? Kudos to the receiver. |

Saturday, November 22, 2008 8:07:45 PM Outstanding catch aside, that had to hurt... I've taken hits similar to that while wrestling (yes, the stuff you see on TV... Did it for 6 years before injuries forced me to end my career). That hit could shatter you r sternum, padding means NOTHING when the hit is big enough. And as for rugby, I've seen the hits from rugby. They ARE pretty brutal, but when you have padding on, you tend to go a bit more extreme thinking the hit wont hurt. There are just some hits the padding wont protect you from. We just witnessed one. |

Saturday, November 22, 2008 6:10:28 PM Good defensive play, better offense. He didn't get lucky and have it land in his hands, he sat up and tipped it back to himself twice. |

Saturday, November 22, 2008 5:00:49 PM That wasn't an actual spear, as in requiring a penalty call. And what's up with no love for the defensive player, that knocked his crap up and still had his eye on the ball? |
