alright dead thread but i'll consider this my defense

ACCORDING TO THE ARTICLE
which is very important because i don't know what actually happened. i wasn't there

Having been previously robbed and shot. One would see fit to avoid such near death experiences. One way would be to buy a gun. another would be to live in an underwater bubble. Things such as getting shot or wounded otherwise would cause someone to be more 'cautious' though in this case overly paranoid.
How i brought darwin into this was, survival of the fittest. near death experiences, like in their name come close to death. Having been shot once before and serving jail time. a great way to protect oneself is to buy a gun. seeing as he can't evolve to save himself might as well figure out how else. i would consider buying a gun after getting shot somewhat intelligent as well. not to mention i'm sure that at least half of you would too... Not given this pretext. all i have to say now. maybe more later. kthxbai

Thought he was being robbed? Damn, I always think I'm being robbed when someone KNOCKS on my door on HALLOWEEN. F-cking retard. And thirty rounds? Yeah... that's totally necessary...

This because of idiots like Sarah Palin and her ilk, how hateful is a nation when a trick or treat kid is riddled to death... shame on america for loving guns."

"If you can make a case that Sarah Palin killed him, I will mail you a check for $1,000."

I could do that, blame it on global warming AND exterminate an endangered species of panda to combat the issue.

>>>An ex-convict who thought he was being robbed gunned down a 12-year-old<<<

Robbed by a 12 year old in a costume? Really? Is that the best excuse he can come up with? Just put him in the chair. Hes not even trying!

@holycrap: that's just ignorant. Don't ever talk to anyone about anything ever again.

I don't know what to say about this article. Why would they let a convict own an automatic weapon? Why would the family stop at some random house? Why would he feel the need to unload 30 rounds? And how do you treat this if he really did suffer from post-traumatic stress syndrome because he was robbed? If he goes to jail, he's going to be brutally murdered by other inmates because he killed a kid.

ok i totally have a gun liscense and i have an 7.62 Saiga which is basically an authentic AK 47. i just think i look hot with it. and how ignorant of holycrap1234 for generalizing the eastern united states. its matters not what part of the country you are from, some people just think guns are cool. i pity the ignorant fools who believe guns kill people. people kill people! the gun is an inanimate object and obviously does not have a mind of its own.

""But I'm almost 100% sure it's illegal to carry automatic weapons, I'm pretty sure AK-47s fall under that category.
Correct me if I'm mistaken.""

Automatic weapons can be obtained, but there are many hoops to jump through. Plus they're expensive as only ones built domestically before 1986 or imported before 1968 are allowed.

However, there are many semi-automatic AK-47 variants that are as legal as any other rifle in most US states. So just because it's called an AK-47 doesn't mean it's an automatic.

Depending on Patrick's prior convictions it might have been illegal for him to own even a semi-automatic rifle though.

perhapsmaybe
My Dad carries around a pistol with him everywhere he goes. If that had happened to either me or any one of my sisters, that guy would've been dead in a second. Which is exactly what he deserves. And even if it was illegal to own guns, those who are willing to kill someone in the first place would manage to get one probably through theft. Its better to make them legal so that innocent citizens can defend themselves.

+ + + + + + +

I really disagree, that's a stupi-- Oh, eastern US.
Nevermind. Makes sense now.

Thirty friggin bullets? He was more lead than man by the time that sicko ended. Holy crap. Criminals nowadays don't even respect your friggin corpse. And what reason did he have to shoot a boy? Throw him in a dungeon for the rest of his miserable existence."

Way to read the whole article... he clearly stated his intentions.

Whoa, for a second there I was expecting Florida or Jersey, but I was sadly disappointed in South Carolina. What?!
But on a serious note, this is really tragic. This is why Halloween is getting worse and worse for me. If kids can't even go out (and by kids I include people like me, despite the fact I'm *ahem* in high school) to have fun, what has our world come to? When we have to worry about our own safety because are toting around guns ready to fire them off at any occassion?
Innocence is ruined because of these people.

"Holy s*it! He killed Tay Zonday! that bastard!"

Just a tad insensitive.

"but neither do pens kill someone stone dead with a single shot - typo or not."

Um, I'm forced to bring up the Dark Knight here. Am I bad person? =X

I don't give a rats ass if this guy supposedly has "PTSD". He wasn't home alone and if people knew he was unstabled they would have made sure the porch light was off and for him notto answer the door. But honestly I don't buy that PTSD crap. It was Halloween, what was he expecting to find at the door? A puppy?"

Actually, a burglary on Halloween would be quite unexpected, and the ex-convict could be anticipating one just for that reason.

But really, spraying that many rounds into a poor little could was a bit overkill.

Just the fact that he was waiting with a gun with him scares me.
