my neighbors call the police every time i slaughter their animals. i was TRYING to do them a favor but they're all "blah blah this" and "ritualistic sacrifice is wrong that". next year, i'll just keep all the bones to my self, and how will you like it then?! |

The pedant would here point out that the primary meaning of the holiday has nothing to do with ghosts and demons whatsoever; it's a harvest-fest, and the animals are slaughtered to provide food for the winter, not to provide sacrifices to Cthulu or whomever else. The superstitions about ghosts walking, etc., were a minor manner, that the populace by-and-large avoided by staying in their homes at night, and putting up various symbols (such as the Jack-o-Lantern) to ward off any spirits that did approach.But what does the Onion have to do with the real meaning of holidays, anyway? They're as commercial as the candy-sellers--just in a different way. |

Halloween is pegan, and these days it's about having fun. Nothing else. And BTW, every one loves Jack Skellington because he has been mentioned in the past century AND DOESN"T EAT YOUR SOUL. god...Oh... it's a joke...
