crak, I meant that if a law is passed, and deemed constitutional, you have to obey it as well.. not that laws are more important than the constitution.. I was excited, and typed to fast lol. |

elkingo, yes, criminals would lose that same right. But they're criminals, they wouldn't care. They would obtain the guns one way or another, and if not they would obtain weapons of some sort one way or another. |

CrakrJack, would like like to have the next president be more like the last Democrat, Clinton, who balanced a budget (actually a surplus), had a great economy, did the most for the middle class than anyone in a long time. Or the last Republican, and I will say about that is he f*ucked this whole country up. Why doesn't anyone bring up the fact that Palin's husband is in a political group that wanted to seceed from the US. Alaska is a socialistic state by giving everyone $1200 from the oil companies. McCain voted with Bush 90% of the time. Also, Palin was asked 4 time what the VP's job is, and she failed every time. Listen to McCain talk, he is old and losing it. |

In my humble opinion and as a Conservative, Obama will win; and I will still vote for McCain, even though I see him as the lesser of two evils.O' If he follows the Democratic strategy will fight against firearms and there will be a larger fight than in the Clinton admin. The simple fact is this, We are all for protecting the U.S.A (especially U.S. Citizens). It is not a citizens right but a duty to protect the country from enemies of the state foreign and domestic. Where did the Democrats go wrong??? When many stated that the would move to Canada after the last election and did not. It is not that that I hoped that you would, but that you would see the error of your ways and apparently you did or that you didn't have the education that Canada required. One political point.. JOHN MURTHA D-PA called Haditha Marines MURDERERS and never said that he was wrong after all but one (until this point) has been found NOT GUILTY!!!!

elkingo: You have that backwards, Amendments are not subject to laws, They supersede laws. This is why laws that are deemed unconstitutional are struck down, Because they become in conflict with the amendments. It is also much much harder to pass an amendment to the constitution, Because of it's power over unjust laws. It's not up to interpretation anymore, The 2nd amendment was just recently re-affirmed by the supreme court.
That is why the DC gun ban is no longer in place. |

Lets also look at the history of the document. It will lead you into what we see in "now days" politics. You do realize that religion in New England was the reason that it was accepted? I urge you to read: Samuel Langdon's Speach to New HampshireYou will find that the states accepted the document for different reasons. Thats my point, the document was written in a way that nearly everyone could accept it for different reasons, and interpret it differently. |

You assume that I (a Conservative, and since you stated no Conservative, that includes me), have not read and thought about the Constitution, and that I haven't put forth some logical thought to it. You do realize that the 2cnd Amendment comes from the English Bill of Rights (1689)? "Freedom for Protestants to bear arms for their own defense, as suitable to their class and as allowed by law." Thats what our amendment was based on. In analysis of that right, you will find that there is more than a logical basis for wanting to own guns, rather than to just for a rebellion or militia, or to protect one's self from militia. The second amendment is also subject to laws that are passed after it; if a law says we can't own certain types of weapons, we have to follow that law. The 2cnd amendment doesn't imply, though, that the right to bear arms is strictly for the sole purpose of defense or rebellion. You can own them for reasons like: hobby, hunting, sport, collections, ect.

Also, define arms.. would that also include protective gear? Bullet proof vest, cavlar, and helmets? hell what about tanks? You can see where I am going with this right? |
