Thursday, October 09, 2008 7:06:56 AM Wow... have any of you guys seen Blood Diamond? It's about De Beers. The company came under massive scrutiny due to selling large numbers of conflict diamonds... they denied it, but set out to reform their diamond trading processes. De Beers at one time sold anywhere from 60-80% of the world's diamonds. It was the biggest name at one point, and responsible for people thinking that diamonds are so rare. |

Thursday, October 09, 2008 5:39:22 AM vv True dat Elkingo. Don't worry, most Europeans (the non-ignorant ones at least) are well aware that most Americans are right-on, but yeah people like Lando DO give you guys a bad name- I like how all the Jewelers he could think of were American... because there's no world outside America's borders, right, Lando?I wonder if Lando would be surprised that other companies such as Shell Oil, Philips and Heineken are also *shock* not American (all Dutch)?

Thursday, October 09, 2008 4:10:48 AM davy, at my college we have many foreign students.. from Canada, Germany, England, Sweden, Brasila, Ireland.. all over.. the biggest complaint they have about us, is the fact that many Americans act like lando.. always thinking e invented things.. like the Hamburger... and always thinking we are right about it. lol

Thursday, October 09, 2008 1:29:21 AM Lando, Way to sterotype Americans in a bad way, dude. Because DeBeers is not an American company (they're South African/Dutch), you immediately dismiss it as being made-up bullsh*t? |

This alleged DeBeers company did NOT invent the phrase "A Diamond is forever" so it should not have been included on this quiz. I guessed every jeweler I could think of (Zales, Ben Bridge, Kay, Jared, Robbin's Brothers) and they were all wrong, but they have just as much right to the phrase as this "DeBeers"So, you missed what is arguably one of the largest diamond retailers in the world and claim that, because you havn't heard of it, they must not have come up with the phrase? That phrase was coined by DeBeers in the 40s and was, I believe, named the best slogan of the 20th century sometime around 2000-2001 or so (correct me if I'm wrong). |
