You can't compare this to rugby. In American football they wear protections so the tackles are much stronger, but the truth is they almost never feel it. As in rugby they wear no protections but tackles like that aren't allowed.

Football is a pussy sport, it's like human bumper cars with more padding. The hits look hard because they know they can run full speed into someone get up and do it again.

yeah but after those hits, the play stopped and everyone reset. everyone had time to walk it off and get back on their feet. in rugby the ball is still in play...

"finally, take off the pussy hole helmets? wtf? r u retarded? i got a concussion and have been off the field for the last two weeks because of a helmet to helmet collision. take off the helmets and ud c a big pile of brains on the football field after every game"

The only reason that you had a helmet to helmet crash is because you were wearing a helmet, from playing rugby and football, i know that when you don't have pads, you don't do half the poo you would in football. Especially even try tackling like football players.

Also, these hit aren't ridiculously hard, most big rugby hits would hurt twice as more, especially if you get dumped on your head

last post and then im done (im just adding these as im reading all the comments)

i play football. u dont think it but football players r just as worried about getting hurt with the pads as rugby players r without them. a good tackle hits BELOW the pads. in other words, where u hit when u make a tackle, yeah, ur opponent doesnt have poo there protecting him, except maybe a hip pad that doesnt come up to far.

finally, take off the pussy hole helmets? wtf? r u retarded? i got a concussion and have been off the field for the last two weeks because of a helmet to helmet collision. take off the helmets and ud c a big pile of brains on the football field after every game

oh yeah, and in the early '60s u were actually allowed to facemask the ball carrier, and before then u could facemask whoever the hell u wanted. so if the shot was from before i think 1965 its a perfectly legal hit

imagine getting hit that hard while playing rugby. let me put it to u this way, u wouldnt be playing rugby anymore. and yeah, a lot of ppl would get seriously injured and/or die from hits like that. those hits were all bone crunching shots. did u c all the ones where the helmets flew off? u get hit like that u should be happy to walk away even with pads

Sure, football is hardcore, cool, strategic(Correct my spelling), and so on.

however, Rugby players play without much protection.

At least they chose a UK band for the background music. Hey let's face it - gridiron or rugby - nobody wants to be in the middle of those hits. My question is who hits harder... league or union players?? (nobody outside US cares about gridiron anyway, they can smack each other up until they are all in mental ssylums for all I care).

_Perfection_ i dont doubt that people would die, some of those charges were ridiculous, i rugby u cant just run in and hit them in the chest with your head, your neck would break! So yeah ppl would die cos they do feckin stupid things! And tbh i think a full on tackle from andy sheridan could kill a fair amount of ppl aswell!

I like how all the people bashing "football", don't even know what they're talking about. Just open your tiny little minds here for a second, and consider the following. If there were no pads the sport would be illegal. Why you ask? Because people would be dying. It is literally im-f*cking-possible to play at that level without pads, for an entire game. So yeah, if you think they're pussies for wanting to play for more than 1 game without dying or having a career ending injury, then yur right.

urrgh i hate it when on any American Football post there are a bunch of Europeans saying poo like: 'them pussy's need padding so they dont get hurt', duh, 'babies need to play rugby and know what pain is' and 'its such a boring sport nothing happens derrrr'

thats coz u dont get the damn sport and have probably never watched a down in your life. American Football has harder hits than Rugby,
THE END

"Rugby injuries are typically minor: bloody nose, sprained finger, twisted ankle. The worst I've seen (not on TV) is a broken collar bone."
You must be going to different games than me. I've seen a few broken limbs and missing teeth, and have also unfortunately seen a broken neck occur. Thankfully, it was not fatal (as others have been. 5 New zealanders have died from Rugby related injuries since 2001).

American football is for big poofs.

IF I had to make a choice of being hit by Americas biggest and fastest linebacker and I could wear all the padding or being hit by Jonah Lomu and I was not allowed to wear padding then GIMME the poofy pads and linebacker ANYDAY OF THE WEEK, it's not even a tough call :P

GridIron is boring rugby designed for girls to play - I wouldn't have a problem with it if it was women running round in padding. But blokes!!! Poofs, full of vagina decliners and rectal surveyors :P

American football is just an excuse for Neanderthals to engage in war without bloodshed (and sometimes even with).
The injuries sustained in American football are 10 times worse in rugby because there are hardly any restrictions to the force of the tackle.
Btw, the pads didn't come before the hard tackles. You wear pads because you tackle too damn hard!
Rugby injuries are typically minor: bloody nose, sprained finger, twisted ankle. The worst I've seen (not on TV) is a broken collar bone.
In football, there are so many consussions and other head and neck injuries that it's a wonder the players aren't all in wheelchairs by now :P

Agentk120 is on the right track...in rugby, you don't hit as hard as possible. You hit as hard as you need to, for a legal tackle. It all comes down to the pads....due to lack of padding in rugby, and the difference in the tackling rules, the individual hits are not as hard. There is a limit on how hard you can hit someone, without doing them, or yourself, serious injury, if there are no pads involved. There is also a limit in rugby as to where you can hit, otherwise it is a breach of the rules, and this is something that is taken into consideration by the tackler. It is rare that a player will put 100% into the tackle, because if it is deemed dangerous, he will get sent off, and posession of the ball will be lost. An american football player is allowed to hit harder, because he and his opponent are padded, and can therefore take a harder hit with more safety.
So comparing the two games, imho, is just not possible. They are too different for comparison. Its like trying to compare ap
