Funny, checking Wiki says that the biggest asteroid impact predicted for far is about 1 km wide hitting us in less than a century from now. They also state this 1km wide asteroid would be devastating to human civilization...This simulation is 500km... |

Nice.. the apocolypse set to pink floyd.. very touching. and crash246, yes it has happened that many times. the reason we don't see the craters is because our surface renews itself reletively rapidly (not in our lifetime, of course). faint traces of the last one that hit, the one that took out the dinosaurs, can still be found off the baja peninsula. Our moon doesn't have an active surface, that is why its so cratered up because the evidence never gets erased. |

Asteroids are nowhere near Earth; meteors are asteroids caught in earth's gravitational field. And meteorites are asteroids that hit the earth....and I think I saw this in school once. :P |

a asteroid that large would have a core, the core would punch right through earth likely hitting our own core and destroying earth. to get an effect close to what they showed here, you would need a rock only the sieze of Manhattan |
