Thursday, July 24, 2008 2:59:41 PM An open request to God:Seeing as He knows everything, He therefore must know I'm here typing this. God, if you're out there, wherever you might happen to be, I ask you, please make yourself known. None of this "working in mysterious ways rubbish", I'm not asking for a sign that might be passed off as coincidence or something, I'm humbly asking for something definitive. Spell out JEHOVAH or YHWH or SATAN IZ TEH GHEY LOLZ in the clouds tomorrow or something obviously deliberate like that. Something I can't miss. Thanks. |

Thursday, July 24, 2008 12:03:06 PM This certainly seems to be an hot-button topic. Well, I have an opinion too, and here it is:None of you know anything. Not one single person here knows what their talking about - including me. All of the tripe you've typed here is, at best, poorly informed opinion peppered with equally poorly spelled insults. Here's the thing - saying your right doesn't make you right. Yelling doesn't add weight to your arguements. Demeaning someone because they have a different opinion isn't going to change the fact that you don't know what you're talking about. Face it - nobody knows. Nobody. You could devote your entire life to the study of the the subject and you would still be left with just a guess. This arguement is more about ego than fact. I will say, though, that for me there's just something about the deep, rich, red of ketchup makes me crave it. Yellow is a sissy colour. |

Thursday, July 24, 2008 11:17:30 AM "The universe is so uninhabitable for life that it takes a statistically impossible miracle for life to exist. There are so many natural forces against life existing that only a God could let life exist."See, I hear a lot of people talking about the statistical impossibility of life arising but I don't hear them elaborate on how and where they get their numbers when pressured. The point Tyson was making was that the universe is not *conducive* to life or made for life (which some people do believe), but that doesn't disallow the possibility for some form of life occurring - it may lessen the likelihood, but not render it impossible. |

Thursday, July 24, 2008 8:55:57 AM Groogle: You apparently didn't understand the argument then. You don't think its fact that 99.99% of the universe is uninhabitable? Go try living on the moon without a helmet and see what happens; much less anywhere else in the universe. The universe is expanding, proof = Red light shifts. Andromeda is on a collision course with us, look it up. Evolution, proof = carbon dating, fossil record, go look at a drating chimp, etc.... The point he's trying to make is that universe nor earth was made with any purpose for us, we're far from perfect and evolution still has a long way to go. I've even seen bill o'reilly say to richard dawkins "theres no way I can believe there is no god, look at how perfect everything is, tides go up tides go down"...This is pretty much a response to that, some things seem 'perfect', but we ignore all that is messed up. And cefka, you exhale CO2...you inhale oxygen.

Thursday, July 24, 2008 7:33:17 AM Science uses observations and tested facts to discover the answer to questions. Intelligent Design people think they already know the answer and twist evidence to support it.Scientist - "How, when and maybe who?" Creationist/Intelligent Design - "Some guy did it" Philosopher - "Why?" |

Thursday, July 24, 2008 2:11:20 AM "I dont know what side is more delusional."So, it's delusional to say that life arises from an invisible creator who decided one day to fashion everything in existence, which still exists and has not changed since creation, and yet it's delusional to say that life arose from organic chemicals and continues through a process of natural laws that are so simple as to be blatantly obvious to anyone with half a brain and the ability to make shadowy guesses as to what happens when you get a group of organisms, some of whom are able to survive better than the others. Tell us please, Groogle, what's the non-delusional explanation for the past 3.5 billion years of life? |

Thursday, July 24, 2008 2:06:45 AM You rail at other people for being uninformed, yet you make a crucial logical error yourself.A theory is the result of observation and testing hypotheses and can only make predictions about the outcome of future experiments; therefore theories cannot be proven, only tested. You can't prove the theory of gravity is correct when it says that my pen will fall to the desk when I drop it. The theory only predicts that it will fall, but the theory cannot guarantee it will fall until you drop it. Proof is where you know the answer before you try the experiment. 2+2=4, that's proven, but for all our knowledge there may be extended circumstances which would hold the pen aloft. On top of that, Catholicism generally accepts events such as evolution as fact and I don't think they'd contest the video at all. |

Thursday, July 24, 2008 2:00:13 AM Did you even try to understand his arguments? It comes down to him saying that the idea of intelligent design is greatly flawed by pointing out that the universe was not purposefully made for us by The Designer, as evidenced by how simply massive it is. There's an awful lot of stuff out there that simply has no bearing on our lives. From our perspective, it's pointless, so why create it for us? Then he moves on to the planet itself seemingly not wanting us here. Surely a designer would have not included catastrophes in his plan? Or, at least would have provided us with a better way of surviving them? Then there's all the stupid poo that goes wrong with our bodies. Why would a designer give us the capacity to develop cancer? Or Alzheimer's? 2 diseases our bodies are powerless against. Why do we have an appendix, or wisdom teeth? Not designed, they're leftovers from ancestors who actually would have needed them. |

Thursday, July 24, 2008 12:56:57 AM He didn't even made a single valid arguments.I'm not against atheism but if this is the best you guys can do then you should inform yourself a lot more. A lot of what that guy talk about are just theories that have never been proved and present them like if if was some sort of joke or something. The best that could actually happen with this story is that some catholic group use this as example on how dumb atheists really are... and if no one care to debunk what this guy say then I dont know what side is more delusional. |

Wednesday, July 23, 2008 11:43:27 PM Neil DeGrasse Tyson has hit the nail on the head with the video. There is no intelligent design; there is only the process of evolution making the best of what we are. Who knows, perhaps if a non-lethal mutation results in lots people being born with 2 mouths, and enough single-mouthed people choke to death, humans might evolve into two-mouthed creatures.Sure, it'd be great to not worry about choking to death, and that's why one mouth for drinking, eating, and breathing is a stupid idea. But there was no thought process involved in giving us one mouth. There's no logical thinking design behind any species. There's only surviving and beating the competition. |

Wednesday, July 23, 2008 11:35:29 PM Why is it so friggin' hard for people to understand? We're not here by intelligent design, or any other kind of conscious design, be it intelligent or not. Every organism alive today has a lineage of around 3.5 billion years. We see so much diversity because mutations and climate change and other factors forced all our ancestors to make the best of what they could at the time.Evolution is a gradual process that is described by evolutionary theory, and that particular theory boils down to law that states two possibilities: that if you take a group of organisms and put them under pressure to survive, either the strongest will survive and pass on their strengths, making survival easier for the next generation, while the weaker ones will die off, OR, nothing survives, resulting in extinction. Evolution has no design or plan, it doesn't have any idea what it's doing as it's a process; a formula which always results in one of two things: either the strongest survive or nothing. |

Wednesday, July 23, 2008 10:46:08 PM Well.. honestly, it's just a matter of frustration.. Usually I just, let it slide.. Ignore it.. move on.. skip the link.. Its just that it seems like there are quite a few of those links.. Granted it's a hot button subject, which means it will get people talking, and people looking.. but it gets tiresome because it's.. okay.. it's perfectly acceptable to bash religious beliefs.. but it's not alright to do so with other groups.. why not? It'd add variety, and .. spice.. to the site.. and it wouldn't seem biased.. |
