"NOBODY comments about how two of the ants face planted from about ten times their body length upwards?"

Uh, because that's something we all saw in the video and we would rather exclaim "whoah!" than. "one of the ants propelled ten times it's body length." and restate what the video already showed us.

anyways! are the ants... injured after they do that? that looks wicked painful.

I've been known to fly through the air due to excessive mouth opening and closing from time to time.

That was so much more amusing than I thought it would be. Trap jaw ants are comical geniuses.

I can do that with my taint, but it's random, sporadic, and not in slo-mo, so yea a real nightmare.

But I like the ants, they make me feel normal again.

Evolutionist's take: Perhaps the evolved behaviour and equipment to allow upward motion from a jaw-snap might allow the ant to escape a potential predator; even without a predator present, it would allow the individual to expand beyond a barrier, say a tree root. With enough individuals doing the same, it might be of benefit to the whole colony, to the detriment of other species.

Creationist's take: These mandibles were obviously designed by an intelligent creator for flying. What use is a half mandible? Where are the transition fossils?

IAB take: That was sweet111!!!!one!1! I want one of those, that was CUTEZORS!11!!1!

One.

Ever heard of flying ants, by any chance?
;)

This is FAR too slow. It's almost painful to watch...

Aren't they worried that they're going to hurt themselves?

That was cool and all, but picture those ants in nature, randomly flinging themselves all over the place. It makes me smile for some reason.

This did nothing to help my completely irrational hatred of ants.

I thought my wife was the only one who could do that.

...that's how she gets out of bed in the morning.
