The ray itself isn't what they're testing.They're actually testing the artificial muscles used to control it. It's a type of plastic that can contract and release when an electrical charge is applied to it. We'll all be seeing a lot more about this material in the next year or two. There are actually plans to make more realistic artificial limbs out of it. It's cool stuff.

It's made for research and study purposes. There are variations in the works that can travel deep into the oceans to study life far below where we can go now.This one is just some aerial prototype. It's cool to watch. They're probably using it study movement. |
