Friday, June 13, 2008 7:42:02 AM It was intentional. I'm a catcher and I know what they did. The catcher calls for a high fastball and then drops down like it's going to be a curve in the dirt. Then people think it's an accident and the pitcher gets a free shot at the ump. I actually had a coach tell me to do that once if the ump made another bad call. |

Friday, June 13, 2008 6:47:24 AM it was just a miscommunication. The catcher thought it would be in the dirt and he went down to his knees so early because of the man on second, he didn't want it to get away from him. and it seemed like he pulled the glove away last minute to hit the ump, but he was just doing it so that he could have a continuous momentum for his throw to 3rd base, he would need it if he was going to throw from his knees |

Thursday, June 12, 2008 11:08:56 AM I agree with AKappy. If you notice, there was a guy on second base. Pitchers and catchers tend to change up signals with men on second. Catcher called breaking pitch down, pitcher threw fastball up. It happens all the time. Besides, that's why Umps wear masks too. |

Thursday, June 12, 2008 9:51:24 AM Jakes, the thing is, the pitcher wasn't trying to throw a breaking ball, but the catcher thought one was coming.Dailir, I understand what you're saying about the glove- that the back of his hand should be in the dirt and the pocket should be up to block the ball. However, he probably just panicked and isn't too fundamentally sound. Honestly, the umpire didn't even react... I don't see why any attention is being paid to this whatsoever.

Thursday, June 12, 2008 8:15:34 AM It was obviously intentional... I wonder if the coach put them up to it? |

Thursday, June 12, 2008 8:01:50 AM plus ive seen people in high school football games get back at officials that make bad calls by running them down given the opportunity... it happens, he didnt get hurt so why punish the kids. There is no way to prove intent. |

Thursday, June 12, 2008 7:58:10 AM ^^^ what kind of high school kid throws such a wicked breaking ball that the catcher reacts before the ball leaves the pitchers hand almost. They were obviously trying to hit the umpire. Even if he was trying to throw a breaking ball, its not that hard to react to a mis-thrown ball like that expecially on the high school level |

Thursday, June 12, 2008 7:15:28 AM Definitely intentional. Any catcher that is going to catch a "breaking ball" would not have his glove turned with the pocket facing down. I've pitched for the last 5 years and always wanted to do this though. I do think the guys should be able to play higher levels of ball, but they should be reprimanded. |

Thursday, June 12, 2008 7:02:23 AM I don't see how you can think of this as unintentional. This pitcher must throw a mad breaking ball for the catcher to respond like this. It's true that in MLB catchers get crossed up... But there's a difference between the speed and movement from pitchers in the majors and ones in high school. Very unsportsmanlike and neither deserve to play in any higher league of baseball. |

Thursday, June 12, 2008 6:52:57 AM Call in the FBI their's a government conspiracy linked to the game because that ball could've bounced off his head, killed 20 people in the stands and traveled on to kill the President and the candidates running. Sorry for this stupid story, over 24 hours no sleep... |

Thursday, June 12, 2008 6:47:37 AM Actually looks fairly legit to me, based on the motions that the catcher made with his glove. THIS is why umps wear their own face masks. Oh, and it is NOT the catcher's job to protect the ump...it's their job to catch the pitch, or any balls that have been fowled, or thrown to home base. What an inane comment. |

Thursday, June 12, 2008 2:21:07 AM I dunno. I just didn't see anything to make me think that was anything more than a wild pitch. On the other hand, that clip that was posted with the girl beating the poo out of the tied up guy's balls, THAT was the most tramatic thing I have ever seen. |
