Sunday, June 01, 2008 2:49:47 PM "Product favored" means that the rxn is exothermic. It's easier to get rid of energy than take it in (same way it's easier to give away crap than get free crap, lol), so the forward rxn is easier than the reverse, which would require mounds of energy to be put into it. |

Thursday, May 22, 2008 2:37:29 PM This isn't new to me at all. We have done this in my chem class at least 10 times this year alone. As cool as this video is, it's much better when done live. |

Wednesday, May 21, 2008 8:45:27 PM 'Product favoured' means that the reaction favours the products, ie. it's easier to turn KClO3 and gummy bears into KCl, CO2 and water than it is to turn KCl, CO2 and water into KClO3 and gummy bears. Pretty much. |

Wednesday, May 21, 2008 7:22:18 PM It's because Potassium Chlorate is an oxidizer. It provides fuels (gummy bear is sugar, sugar is a good fuel) with oxygen in order to burn. The potassium chlorate is hot in this experiment, so it begins the fuel/oxygen reaction instantly. |
