Friday, May 09, 2008 9:45:38 AM Why is it that people miss the obvious? Sure you can get into a tight parking space with wheels that turn like the moon rover etc BUT the vehicles on either side of you CANT GET OUT! When they come out to their cars they would feel perfectly justified in damaging your vehicle trying to get out. When you would come back to your car the most you could hope for are some very pissed off motorists who have had to wait for your sorry ass to return. At worse they would damage your car trying to get out AND whup your ass for being so inconsiderate. Also the police would fine you for parking too close to other parked cars. Unless every vehicle parked either side of you has this feature this item is USELESS |

Wednesday, May 07, 2008 10:17:29 PM Even if it was practical and useful, which it isn't, it would only be a stopgap. Self-parking cars can be made already. You just stop near a spot and engage parking mode - the car's computer then takes over and parallel parks for you. |

Wednesday, May 07, 2008 9:05:18 PM If you can't park, you shouldn't be allowed to drive -.- ergh. and to all those female drivers posts, if males are such better drivers, why is their insurance so much higher? |

Wednesday, May 07, 2008 8:00:38 PM benjbenj...more accurate than what? The only difference between that information and my post is a conformation that insurance companies say they do check the actual figures. They also state, unsurprisingly, that the difference applies to young drivers and that the differences are reducing anyway as more women are driving more miles and more women are driving more recklessly (which, unlike the person in the article, I don't think is a result of picking bad habits up from men, as if women couldn't have any of their own). |

Wednesday, May 07, 2008 4:33:44 PM Parallel parking? Nah, here's how to do it properly:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=REpXf0cmJ... The main reason women can get cheaper car insurance is simply business - it attracts more customers than it repels. The old explanation, which might or might not still be true, if it ever was, is an inaccurate application of averages, based on what matters to the insurance companies - cost of claims per year. The old explanation is that (i) the average distance driven per year by women is much lower than that driven per year by men, so women have fewer crashes per year despite having more crashes per mile and/or (ii) the average cost per crash is higher for men than for women. I don't know if anyone even bothers checking the actual figures. It's business - giving preferential treatment to women is seen as an attractive thing nowadays. |
