Wednesday, October 31, 2007 4:08:56 AM Skills like catching? Throwing? Kicking? Tackling? There is not enough difference between rugby and american football that you can talk about skills coming in from either direction being needed or unlearnable in a month. I found it pretty straightforward to learn A.F. coming from Rugby, and at 55Kg and 5'8" I could still bring down the A.Footballers with a Rugby tackle. ;) |

Tuesday, October 30, 2007 6:18:54 PM umm.. I'm not sure about the rest of you, but at my school we call that a "schoolyard bullsh.it" just their not usually that good(considering no one else has mentioned this, I'm guessing that we might have just made that up) anyway, they are annoying as hell for the other team |

Tuesday, October 30, 2007 3:52:27 PM "Tuesday, October 30, 2007 7:35:33 AM Lol whoever said that tackles in rugby come in at 5 mph are either blind or there mind cant calculate speeds! If they tackled that slow theyd never be brought to the floor. I feel american footballers are poo scared they might mess there faces up. Look at all the rugby players with flat noses and coliflour ears, no thats a real sport! Get stuck in , get muddy and get hurt!"----- qoute from ignorant european."Football player are afraid they may get their faces messed up" excuse me, have you even taken a look at how many people in football have died due to spinal cord injuries or having your skull decompressed (doesn't sound fun does it?) tons of football players either get permanantly paralyized or die during this sport even with helmets and pads, just a little fun fact, in my freshman yes FRESHMAN division alone this year we had 4 cases of broken limbs, 1 case of someone going un-consious, and tons of cramps, so please ed |

Tuesday, October 30, 2007 1:11:09 PM look, i love football and i dont have nything against rugby, but wen people say rugby is tougher than football, thats just plain ignorance. i think in rugby u need a lot more stamina than in football (cuz football players stop every 2 sec.) but wen u r playing, u use all of ur strength just 2 get a yard in or 2. i played my eighth grade year and even in junior high i almost passed out in our last game. o and 4 all the english people out there, i gotta apologize about the NFL game played there. miami is the worst team in the league and the giants arent that good either. that game was prolly the worst of the week. only 2 touchdowns! so sry.and about the name "football" i think soccer should b the only "football" out there cuz we hardly use the foot and kicking a game winning field goal is a cheap way 2 win but wen americas biggest sport 4 about half a century is called that, its kinda hard 2 change the name just like that. |

Tuesday, October 30, 2007 4:48:26 AM Monday, October 29, 2007 1:51:47 PM If American football players didn't wear pads half of them would be dead. -------------------------------------Take the pads off, let them die and let your crappy sport die. Thanks. |

Tuesday, October 30, 2007 1:57:23 AM BroadwayLove -- its cause the extremists on both sides have the loudest voices, even though they are not the majority. Theyre the ones who escalate this CRA#P. There are millions of ppl, American, European, Asian, Australian, African, who respect BOTH football and American football as legitimate sports. You all who believe one sport is better than the other or that either is illegitimate because of origin (all modern sports came from somewhere, bastardization matters not, everything now is a bastardization with all the rule changes and officialization), you all can keep to your endless bickering. The rest of us who are not as extreme, close-minded, stubborn, whatever, and who can respect the sports of our different cultures, we will spend our time doing more worthwhile things, like appreciating whichever football we damn well wish to. I'm born and raised in NYC, USA, but my gf and I like and follow both footballs. Extremism, that gets out of hand, brings the wise nowhere. |

Tuesday, October 30, 2007 1:53:01 AM By the way, I looked up Jonah Lomu and watched some videos and stuff. He is clearly an amazing athlete, and I don't think anybody is arguing that there are fantastic athletes in both sports. If anybody does, they're clearly idiots. I'll be honest though- the defense looked absolutely terrible in those videos. The tackling seemed like a joke... A 250 pound man who can run the 100 in 10.8 is pretty remarkable, but I'd be hard-pressed to find a player in the NFL who runs a 40 in under 4.7 (including 320-350 pound linemen), with the fastest players running in the 4.25-4.30 range. To sum it up: both sports have incredible athletes, and both are entirely different. It just kills me when people badmouth a sport that they simply know nothing about. |

Tuesday, October 30, 2007 1:43:10 AM As for the whole "football should be played with your feet" discussion, kicking determines just about the most important aspect in football- field position. Kickoffs and punts are a huge part of the game, and these both require the (GASP!) foot. Also, field goals (ALSO REQUIRING THE FOOT!) account for more scoring than touchdowns, so anybody who says that "football" is an unfit name for the sport really doesn't have a firm grasp of what they're talking about. |
