I got 15 correct, but anyway, I really wish people would stop playing the "stupid American" card...it's not really our fault that so many of our citizens are receiving sub-par education. I'd blame the government (public education), and as we don't always get a say in what all happens here, it's generally beyond our control. A lot of Americans want to learn things but don't know where to start...it all goes into different areas that need a bit of reform.

And since when did CSI affect our geography? I catch the show from time to time, but still...not everyone likes ot waste their time watching hours of television each day. If you don't pay attention to TV, that question leaves you clueless, and it says nothing about your geographical literacy.

Apparently I'm geographically illiterate because I don't watch CSI. I didn't know geography required watching TV.

It's the damned companies that take advantage of the low wages the immigrant will work for.

tiredofnicks, kicking the illegals out would actually help our economy. They cost us billions of dollars every year because they don't pay income taxes, some of them get free college tuition, most get free health care, and a lot of them send portions of their incomes back to Mexico and out of the American economy. They are a liability, not a blessing. Mexico is exporting its poor people and its criminals to the U.S.

The international business language is English. As such, many non-native English speakers know English as well. Many people 18-24 in the USA know this. You can go to nearly any country in the world, and if you look for a brief period you can find someone who can speak English. I challenge you to go to a random place in any country and pick another random language and find someone that can speak it. You'll find someone able to speak English in the middle of Singapore than you can find someone who can speak Mandarin in the middle of Argentina. I am pretty sure that is what weighed on people's minds when answering that, and they disregarded the "primary" part as they were given this test on a voluntary basis. If their grade in school or wage in work depended on it, they would have paid more attention.

The others can be explained away, but this one? How arrogant is that?

xDefilerx: Correct me if I'm wrong, but if you'd deport all the illegal immigrants in the US wouldn't your economy collapse? Who'd do all the menial labor that "legal" US citizens refuse to do?

Ok, maybe this survey was intended to make Americans look dumb. But let's look at our own education systems first. I live in the UK where you can obtain a university degree without being able to punctuate or even spell correctly.

More and more school-leaving kids here cannot even read to an adult level. 1 in 5 adults in the UK are functionally illiterate. Maybe this is down to us getting stupider or maybe it's the airy-fairy way we are teaching children these days.

Either way there is an old saying about glass houses and people throwing stones.

Between illegal immigration and war, the USA is taking a beating. I say we just put our soldiers on the border and shoot the Mexicans.

I am not racist or anything, I am just sick of the Mexicans. Sure, let the Mexicans who want to come to America to have a better life and work for a living stay, but kick the rest out. If you want to illegaly come to our country, then make sure you are doing something and not wasting money.

"It amuses me how anything can be turned into a "Americans are dumb" "No we're not, we're better." argument."

Excellent point, simpleaddict.

"Oh, and gee, where are all the best colleges located? Where do people innovate? And where do all the immigrants come for a better life? America!"

Hah, not for long. First of all, everybody else on the two American continents hates it when we refer to the USA as "America", as if the other countries don't matter. Second, we were always strong because we attracted the best and the brightest from other countries. Our increasingly aggressive, belligerent global stance and our increasingly discouraging immigration policy and the failing dollar is already changing that. Better learn another language, and soon. I recommend Mandarin.

"Where is Sra Lanka"?
Someone picked North America. Why everyone might now know where Sri Lanka is, everyone should know it is not one of the 50 states.

North America isnt just the USA

Only missed the CSI one. And theres a good reason most Americans cant find places like Sudan on a map, America is so big that most people never leave or go to another nation (not counting Canada).
