Monday, May 01, 2006 11:36:04 PM 4/10 I suck. But in my defense I have read other books (like the Uncle John's Bathroom Readers) that say the opposite of what the MythBusters say on some of these. The sandwich one, for example, is listed as an urban legend in Uncle John's and has a whole different story about the real origin of the sandwich. Who do I trust? I'm so confused! |

Sunday, April 30, 2006 10:27:10 PM Absolutely correct, smort, I was about to bring up that precise point. However, wasn't the Berliner a sausage and not a doughnut? That was my understanding, at least. |

Sunday, April 30, 2006 5:46:14 PM i think they're a bit wrong about the berliner one. ich bin ein berliner DOES mean 'i am a (berlin-style) doughnut'. what kennedy should have said was 'ich bin berliner', without the ein. it's the same as the significant difference between 'ich bin frankfurter and ich bin EIN frankfurter! and their english example is fallacious too. while i am danish obviously does not imply pastry, i am A danish sorta does... right, that's my two cents outta the way. |
