John Stewart weighs in with Walter Cronkite level creds as he spears political stupidity regardless of party.

I've never been a fan of Cronkite, but insulting him like that is uncalled for.

@SleepyHallow: Stewart is an avowed liberal Democrat who REFUSES to hire righty Republicans to work as writers. Openly, it's not a secret.

He DOES NOT 'skewer both sides' equally, it's just not happening. How could he? EVERY writer on staff is leftist!

Even his token 'mockery' of the left is usually a disguised compliment OR sneaks a dig against the right in. The mockery of 'the right' is naked and without restraint.

AND THAT'S FINE! He's a COMEDIAN! His show is NOT news. Just don't lie about what it obviously is or is not.

Dennis Miller is to conservatives what Bill Mahr is to Liberals.
Both have something valid to say but both end up taking it to the fringes of their respective wings so neither one has much credibility.

John Stewart weighs in with Walter Cronkite level creds as he spears political stupidity regardless of party.
[it not his fault that the GOP is so much more incredibly stupid.]

Miller's material is aimed about 30 IQ points higher than Stewart's.

Don't make this about Miller v. Stewart. If it is funny, let them make a joke. If they want to make a point, it needs more information. Miller, does not have the avenue to make points like Stewart has. Miller is a humorist. Stewart is a Comedian. Miller gets paid for thinking of funny bits. Stewart makes money telling a story.

@normalfeak2: You mean late in Carlin's career, right? Early on he was much more like Miller.
And Stewart doesn't use facts, he uses "sound bites" which is entirely different. Stewart holds up a "paper tiger" and fearlessly growls at it! NOT cutting edge comedy OR proper political satire.

Miller bases a lot of his work on facts, just ones liberals don't like hearing!

For instance, Miller in this clip makes fun of Pelosi because it looks like she's trying so hard to do nothing? I don't find that funny, what's the joke?

Stewart will let someone someone say something stupid, then they'll self contradict, then he'll ridicule them. Rightly so. I guess I find humor in irony. Which is why I loved George Carlin.

The one thing I notice with comics like Dennis Miller, and let's say, Jon Stewart. Comics like Miller make fun of people of generalities. Stewart makes fun of people by actually repeating what that person actually said. That's just what I notice between these two specifically. Miller has some good ones but his jokes are hardly ever rooted in facts. I get the impression that he simply doesn't like certain people and makes fun of them for that reason. Stewart doesn't do that when I hear him, He just let's idiots talk and then after he puts some context behind it then proceeds to lambaste someone.

Thanks y'all! Dennis has always struck me as a fair guy: he slams both sides when they deserve it!

Of course in "Liberal Land" that makes him a "right wing red-neck" because ONLY one side should face ANY criticism.
