I know they aren't after people and are hunted too much. But I'm still not getting on a board or a small boat in the ocean. I'd end up being that one person who was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Sharks kill 1 person a year on average.
People kill 100 million sharks a year on average.

Who should be more afraid?

I would have probably have braved it out,
until no one could see me, then turn into a jelly
and flop into a 'want my mom' position

i wouldn't want to face a shark, but the chances of it happening are really slim. When it comes to the seaside, you have a lot higher chance of drowning in a rip current than being killed by a shark attack.

Had this once while surfing back home in Ireland - it was a Basking Shark, completely non-dangerous but it was a big bastard.

I'd like to say that I braved it out, stared nature in the face and caught an epic wave, testosterone dripping from my every pore. But the reality is I paddled like a chickenpoo bastard for the shore and sat there shaking like a little girl. Didn't go back near the water for a week. I may even have cried a little bit.
