I like the summer, the rain gets warmer.

I watched a video clip a couple of days ago in which Matt Farah (USA car show host) came over to Britain to meet Chris Harris (UK car show host) and do a video comparing two cars. They talked a bit about other stuff, like Matt Farah's impression of the UK. His reply was about the weather - he'd only been here a day and it had rained 5 times already :)

Great post! Made me laugh out loud. I could look at the same post over and over but with different photos. I'm sure other people could find other funny graphics.

Man, that was awesome. The CA v. Michigan stuff was funny, the English stuff made it great.

Yes, Fahrenheit picked the scale he did because 100F is about the average hottest day most people will experience, and 0f is about the coldest most people will experience. He wanted the scale to reflect human experience.

It's odd how well people adapt. I used to know someone who had moved to one of the colder bits of Alaska years ago and they'd become used to regarding pretty much anything above freezing as fairly warm. At the other end of the scale, I once watched a documentary on some !Kung people. 30+C and they're comfortable running at a brisk pace for hours.

Some of the oldest written references to England (before it was England) are complaints about the weather (although more about the rain than the temperature). It's long been a custom to complain about it, but I rather like the weather here. It's rarely extreme in any way.

We use new money now. Mainly because fahrenheit was too difficult to spell.

Now I want to find out how much effect different types of paper has on the temperature of spontaneous combustion.

Hmm...it seems that thin sheets of wood pulp paper (the "book paper" mentioned in Bradbury's famous story) would catch fire at about 451F.

Sources:

That's an engineering source, a manuscript preservation source and a fire investigation forensics source.

So I think that Ray Bradbury was about right, though too specific. It

the only fahrenheit i know is 451, and thats only because thats the temperature in which paper catches fire (thanks ray bradbury!).

I remember that water freezes at 32F and boils at 212F. I also remember that there was a reason why he made the scale that way, but I forget what it is. I think 0F was the coldest temperature recorded where he lived. Something like that.

Still though that's a warm freaking day. It barley ever reaches 40C around here. The city almost shuts down.
