contrary to what many think, the NRA does NOT represent all of the gun owners in this country. They do some good, and they do some bad, but mostly they are indifferent to local gun laws and issues. If they need to open carry in Texas to remind people of their constitutional rights and illegal immigrant pressure and drug dealing along the border...then that is Texan's business. the NRA should keep their yap shut

Also @Sleepyhollow- How about having a restraining order against you at some point in your life? Half of marriages end in divorce and probably 90% have a restraining order in place. Your ability as a law abiding gun owner can be stripped away by a vindictive spouse in about 30 secs. I know, because it happened to me. Once the judge saw she was a whack job ( No politically correct term can describe her), he gave my legally owned firearms back to me….a month after hunting season closed.
I wonder what would happen to the driving accident mortality rate if you needed an IQ of 100 to be able to drive?
Oh, and I wonder what the world would be like if you had to have an IQ of over 100 to have children. Less gun crime, I’d bet.
But, when would it end? It’s too Orwellian for me.
Mandatory prison time for crimes committed with a firearm would do a much better job of seriously lowering the crime rate. Stop the criminals so you and I can continue on

@Sleepyhollow- I agree that like in any group, the actions of a few can ruin it for all. I’d like to mention that there have been millions of law abiding citizens with IQ’s less than 100 that would never contemplate committing a crime with a firearm. Every law abiding gun owner and NRA member that I know completely agree that a ( insert politically frackin correct word here) person with a very low IQ or known serious problems should never own a gun.
Also, what tests will be instilled after the IQ test? ADD, ADHD, FASD? Who will be conducting the tests? This Gov would probably choose the IRS.
Mandatory prison time for crimes committed with a firearm would do a much better job of seriously lowering the crime rate.

gun carrying idiot

You comment lumps a large group together as stupid because you disagree with them......how progressive!

If a place tells you in advance they don't want guns on their premise why is that such an issue? It's about respecting someone else property.

That wasn't what I asked. If someone doesn't obey federal/state gun laws and other things like don't rob/murder what makes you think they'll obey a request by a private place? SO no police allowed then too right they also have guns.....

@McGovern

My comment had nothing to do with Lib's or Conservatives. If a place tells you in advance they don't want guns on their premise why is that such an issue? It's about respecting someone else property.

@normalfreak2

My question is how does a liberal idiot expect a person who doesn't obey the law to obey a personal place of business request of no you can't do that?

My question is, How do you expect law abiding citizens to know which gun carrying idiot is lawful and which one isn't? Personal places of Business should be able to say "no" They don't know you are a good guy or bad guy.

AGit but I'd say that inducing fear has been quite successful in terms of influencing a wide variety of people.

It's who you induce fear against. Induce fear agaisnt the Gov. then yes Gun lobby gets more influence and sway. Induce fear against these guys carrying weapons in public than no they want to remove what they see as the threat. They're inducing fear against their cause not for it.

As far as I'm concerned, you should have to pass an intelligence test by at least a triple digit IQ score to be allowed to own a firearm.
I'm sick of the inbred morons making ALL gun owners look like idiots and I'm ready to throw them under the bus just so they don't fudge up my rights.

That would actually make me feel safer.

And now the NRA has apologized for making these sane comments.

The NRA has always supported gun safety. There's a side that wants to paint a picture that they're crazy or in it for money which is kind of ironic looking at this sides record. BTW I'd be more concerned about people hiding weapons than those displaying them.

@Whodat

JFC really? These Texas gun nuts. I swear to god. They have ZERO common sense. That screenshot is priceless. Just shows how looney these people are.

This is actually good for the NRA, ACTUALLY SHUNNING the crazy among them. Now if only the GOP and Tea Tards would do the same.

Well, it gets attention, that's a plus!
But like the "extreme feminist" exhibitions of the 70's it's probably "over the top" for most folks.

Also: These people undoubtedly support "concealed carry" correct? HOW can one rally showing that? Eh? Think about it: a rally for concealed carry where you cannot SEE any guns? So they hold an "open carry" rally That makes sense to me!

"The NRA is out to grab our guns! Let's get EM BOYS!"

That's pretty much what they said on their Facebook page, hahaha!

open carry should be not allowed within city limits. there is no need to carry a rifle down main street besides a parade. i cant believe the NRA finally started caring about the rest of the population.

Open-carrying should be based on practicality and nothing else.

@Crakr, I agree it's definitely not the best way to win friends, but I'd say that inducing fear has been quite successful in terms of influencing a wide variety of people.

"It makes folks who might normally be perfectly open-minded about firearms feel uncomfortable and question the motives of pro-gun advocates."

I'll agree with that quote. Scaring the general populace is not the way to win friends and influence people.

Link: You Know You've Gone Too Far When... [Pic+] [Rate Link] - The NRA thinks you need to "cool it" with your support of gun rights.
