@Laran

Funny you say that cause I bet you'd never stop bitching if the US did something like that.

Ollie is once again proving was an ignorant moron he is.
Billions? Really? Is that what Fox News and Rush Limbaugh have told you, you f[uc]king idiot?

The total of ALL Foreign Aid given to the entire rest of the world last year was $22 Billion.
Get you head out of your anus, dipschitt.

With stalin as one of their former leaders people need to do a lot more than protest.

Ukraine should take the $billion we gave them and put a $25,000 bounty on Russian troops within their borders.

Im not surprised that Russia wants to protect itself.
They do not want their people to suffer because Ukraine can't manage itself.
I am also not surprised America is opposed to anything that could strengthen their old nemesis.
Russia does not want to get dragged down.
They voted and won we should mind our own business.
That patch of land is crucial to russia and I honestly can't blame them for wanting to secure their own future.
Ukraine mismanaged themselves and now russia took over.
First rule of first aid is don't become a victim too.

It's just interesting that Russia could probably invade any EU country on its border - Estonia, Latvia, Finland and nobody would do anything. They could occupy Finnmark and Svalbard in Norway, and nobody would do anything.

"You warmonger you!"

No, I only advocate JFK style foreign policy. Progressives would consider his practical approaches to be fascist today.

Firstly, we assault the Ruble. We could destroy it, stop accepting all Rubles, freeze all Russian money. As the Russian economy tanks, station planes in Poland, exercises with Romania and Poland, and bring the new Ukraine into NATO.

Now, the assault on the Ruble and the oligarchs' money probably won't happen because the British are protecting the Russian criminals' fortunes in the City of London. Also, Obama has no balls. And Angela Merkel is too dependent on Russia to risk a loss.

piratefish - that's correct. Many Ukrainians I know wouldn't necessarily miss Crimea. I think they would lament the fact they were invaded a bit, but they would realize they can pursue their own desires better now.

However, not all of the ethnic Russians want to live in Russia. It's unclear what the result of the vote would be if it weren't under occupation.

Should we get involved? Well, we had a treaty with Ukraine to protect them in this situation. If we don't do anything, our diplomacy is completely empty and means nothing. Flaccid. Impotent.

Ukraine gave up 2,000 nukes if the United States and the United Kingdom would protect their territorial integrity. Nuclear Non-proliferation agreements should mean something.Treaty.

I thought Crimeans just voted to side with Russia. My understanding is that something like 57% of Crimea, and most of the Ukraine's eastern provinces, are ethnic Russians. Not surprising they would back a Russian merger.

Sounds to me that Ukrainians themselves want to split the country. But, of course, many times in history that has been the case, warfare has been involved - including right here in the US.

Again - not our business. This is on Russia's doorstep and involves a huge population of ethnic Russians. The US would be doing the same things if the shoe were on the other foot. We're hypocrites to criticize or to get involved.

Screw Kiev - they were in Moscow. A bit more of a pertinent place to protest, wouldn't you say?

Both of you, this isn't really that surprising. Especially in Moscow. I would expect it in Moscow.

Also, I suspect many analysts will analyze the situation from a Western European 2014 perspective. That will lead you astray, trust me. That kind of analysis is why Obama and the EU's response has been so utterly flaccid and neutered.

This is in Moscow, which makes more sense of why it's interesting...
