Re: CCTV in the UK. There are estimated to be about 5 million cctv cameras in the UK (one for every 11 people) but the 'vast majority' are private.

If you have another organism controlling the cameras problem is solved.

What cats? The cameras in the UK are controlled by the police BTW.

McGovern1981 i mean cameras on the street controlled by a different associaton than police. Is obvious that your sistem don't work cause cameras and recordings are in the hand of police itself. If you have another organism controlling the cameras problem is solved.

Oh, lighten up, sourpuss. I'm just kidding around. I'm a social democrat--not a Marxist.

I know I know.

A security camera not only prevent criminals actions but also prevent violent police reaction. I think that a cop will think more than twice on going berserk on who he want knowing there is a camera recording his actions.

Ya like how we have cameras on all police cars/station even on some officers. Problem is the people who work the cameras who do you think they'd be more likely to side with the people the work with or some random person?

McGovern1981 surveillance cameras don't kick you in the balls or spray some pepper in your face.

No, they just accommodate those who do.

You joke about the Che comment but if he had his way the police state would be in full effect if he had his way history shows it. Yet many lemmings think he's an idol. Careful what you wish for.

It's true we have a lot of cctv cameras in public places. I'm sort of ok with that as it helps reduce crime and I don't see how it interferes with civil liberties. It just records what happens on the street.

Mmmmhmmmm ever read or watch 1984? Don't worry we're getting there too. It's all good when it's for "safety" then they use it other things and it becomes bad.

But I also like living in a society where I never get to see a gun or hear one in the streets or have people I care about becoming casualties of guns.

I live in a society where that's never happened to me you'd be surprised how the media likes to manipulate people to think we live in a warzone. Now just ask why.
If I wanted a legal gun it would take me a couple of weeks of form-filling and some improvements to my home security, but I could get one.

And it would be a bolt action rifle or breach shotgun it's quite limited.

As for being disarmed, as I have said before I like guns. Guns are fun. I used to be a pretty decent shot with a Martini-Henri. But I also like living in a society where I never get to see a gun or hear one in the streets or have people I care about becoming casualties of guns.

It's a different culture. It's not practical at the moment for the US to move to a point where guns were only available for legitimate sporting/hunting/pest control needs. It is practical to aim for that in the UK. If I moved to the states I would probably buy a gun. I hope you would reciprocate.

@LordJim

That's pretty funny you say that considering you live in a land that wants to completely disarm you and has the most public surveillance camera on the planet. Care for the definition of a police state?

It's from 2011....a bit late.

'do you search the end of the earth for US police vids?'

Nope. Don't need to. They're as common as cats. But you're probably right, we shouldn't draw attention to it.

I am so afraid that I listen to you,
Your sun glassed protectors they do that to you.
It's their ways to detain, their ways to disgrace,
Their knee in your balls and their fist in your face.
Yes and long live the state by whoever it's made,
Sir, I didn't see nothing, I was just getting home late.

Shouldn't hit him like that on the ground but this guy didn't help his case which is why his friend stayed the hell out of it.

BTW this is from 2011 and pretty sure it's been here before do you search the end of the earth for US police vids? Anything to satisfy the Che shirt wearing "DA USAZ IZ A POLICEZ STATEZ DOWN WID DA USAZ!!" crowd for comment fluff huh?

"The guy was plainly drunk," Platke said. "Inebriated." He said the man's friends got him outside but he continued to cause problems, struggling with his friends. That's when Ries intervened, according to Platke.
"The officer grabbed him and tried to get him to come out of the car. The guy fell onto his chest and locked his arms around this officer's ankles and would not let go," Platke said. Ries "was there with his feet locked together, screaming at this guy to let go. He used his baton to try to hit him to get him to let go. He finally had to use (pepper spray) and the guy finally let go.

Story

"Platke, 49, the owner of the Shell station on Arsenal Street, claimed the man seen being hit by Ries was being disruptive that night and was struggling with the officer.
Platke said he was not at the station that night but had spoken to two employees and had viewed security camera footage. He later provided footage to the Post-Dispatch, but it was grainy and the view of the altercation was largely obstructed."

"because it's exceedingly rare that an American cop will interact with the American public that way"

Why I love living in a small town. The cops joke around all the time with people, but when it's go time they put on their game face.

"The worst thing about this is that they all stand around and wtach it happen."

What do you think happens if you intervene? You get the next beating, that's what. The only thing you can do in this situation is be a witness for the prosecution when this cop is brought to trial for assault and/or attempted murder. {If I attacked someone with a club and beat on them while they were down that's what I would be charged with...attempted murder.}

The only time the "law" interacts with the citizens is in a contrived planned event or of course the youth programming system.
