Don't order a cup of tea or water there, it's theft!

Lando, so he was arrested for trespassing and probably disorderly conduct, disturbing the peace, etc ... not refilling his drink? Well that changes the story COMPLETELY. The sign is misleading bullpoo.

Yeah, F*CK those poor, homeless people who can't afford to eat! Let the bastards starve! McD's needs that extra fifty cents in profit!

That's why you're supposed to get Sprite if you ordered water. Open the lid, yeah it's water; now fxck off.

"I was 86d from a favorite bar for slapping a guy in the face"

This is my favorite comment ever. I don't even care about the soda stealing felony thing.

Jesus, that's a bit harsh. I worked at McDonald's for a while. There was this old lady who would order tea every day and then sit at a table and steal salt by shaking the disposable plastic shaker into a paper bag. She may have been a little "off center" so I felt pity for her. I finally approached her and told her she can keep the whole salt shaker, she doesn't have to go through the trouble of shaking it into a bag. I mean, if she went through that much trouble, she must have REALLY wanted the salt. I don't think McDonald's ever noticed the missing shaker.

For a theft to be a felony the object stolen has to be worth more than $400.

That some pretty effing expensive soda the sell in Collier County, Florida.

Took LandoFriffin's advice and googled it here is the real story. Short version: stealing, trespassing, disorderly intoxication.

It's disproportionate, but that's the intent of the legal system, as determined by law, which is influenced by lobbyists paid for by prison corporations.

Google it. The staff caught him filling his water cup with soda and told him not to do that anymore. He did it again, so they asked him to leave that McDonald's. He refused to leave, so THEN the management called the cops. Mark Abaire was arrested for refusing to leave. He is charged with trespassing and disorderly conduct.

Atrayu4u, most places like that - it's not even really a punishment, they just don't want to do business with any pervayor of any drama at all. Not saying you deserved it, but yeah, even the slightest infraction is usually "banned for life". ;)

A $1 drink is a "felony" worthy of 5 years in prison? What ever happened to the legal classification of "petty theft"?

... or did they just fail to mention that he also was buck naked and waving an uzi around?

If you have a certain cup or mug, though, you can get free coffee for life. Look it up, if you're interested. As far as this story.. I think 5 years in prison is too much for this particular act, but that stealing soda is still theft and one who does so should be punished, to some extent.

I was 86d from a favorite bar for slapping a guy in the face. No matter the fact that it was just one slap, and that that's all the aggression I've ever showed at the bar, and that it was justified, and that the guy I slapped, at a different bar months later, said he didn't even remember what happened, I'm still 86d a year and six months later. I should have been punished, I suppose, but not nearly for that long.
