I never, ever had any issues with Their, There or They're. I always have issues with effect and affect though.

This is clear evidence that we need a sarcasm font.

A Yank complaining about someone's lack of lingual knowledge... That's rich.

Just discussed the meaning of "help" to a foreign national. At the end, he understood help, helped and helping. I felt proud, but he looked bewildered. When I asked if he had a question, he said "so, a helping of potatoes?"

MarthFador and HolyGod underestimated the stupidity of the Interwebs by assuming we would all get the joke. ;)

I think the point is that they're is a comma after the "no".

"@HolyGod and 5Cats.. Gerry1of1 is correct in his statement "This is why parents embarrass their kids". As the parents have ownership of the kids, you only use "there" to name a place, a thing or the existence of something. "

NO. F.ucking. S.hit.

Look at the subject of the post.

I was making, what I THOUGHT was a fairly obvious joke.

However it somehow triggered a 3rd grade english lesson.

There - Use when pointing out a direction: "It's over there." or to call attention to something: "There it is!"

Their - use when referencing possession: "It's their cat."

They're - A contraction of "they are": "They're going to the store later."

If you can't replace it with "They are" then "they're" is the wrong use and leaves on of the two. All you have to remember is that "Their" is possessive and "There" is directional (or to call attention).

The upside of posting such inane comments on a social network, is at least she is likely to have been corrected.
