I don't really want to get to technical but the strike looks more like a hammerfist to me than a backfist, if you pause it you can see the his forearm muscle is still lateral with the ground so I think he probably hammerfisted him in the area right behind the jaw bone which Merlock should know is an easy knock out point. Second, the pimp was acting in a threatening manner so Lee was justified in acting preemptively to prevent his own injury. Last but not least, that whole registering your hands as weapons is an old fable. I have been a black belt for more than 3 years and never been required to register, nor have any of the blackbelts or masters I have trained with. Having said all that forget mechanics that was SWEET!!!! |

It said in the film qcm that the "pimp" was hitting the lady, which is a crime. Also if you notice the karate guy hit the man first, the man did not throw a punch and got koncked out. Maybe that is also why the police did not arrest him.Side note you are a black belt karate expert and are teaching the cops how to swing your arms you have to register your hands a deadly weapons because you learn tactics such as stoping a persons heart as well as pinching nerve ending to stop them from moving. I would shocked if the "pimp" did not press charges for assult. |

Ubermonkey, show me one martial artist who can actually "stop your heart" with a strike, and I'll show you a liar with no proof.There *might* be a couple of guys in Asia who could do something like that. There are none here in North America. But you're right, if you hit a certain Dan in many martial arts, you are considered a deadly weapon. |

Nothing very special about what he did, easy to critique. Yeah, he clearly isn't some 7th dan superman out there. And no, probably not a pressure point.But you gonna mock him or insult him over what he did? The guy I'm sure knows what he's doing far better than you do. I've taken a few martial arts for a few years, and what I saw was conceptually perfect, and that makes up for any style flaws. What were his intentions? Remove the pimp as a threat without seriously injuring him. Also, maintain his own safety and well-being. I'd say the officer did very well. Single strike, fast, straightforward, well-placed without overuse of force. He accomplished exactly what he wanted to do. Also, his loose demeanor as the pimp approached certainly seemed to lull his assailant into a false sense of security. He handled the situation and handled it well. Go critique someone during their advancement test, not when used practically. |
