One example is Saving Private Ryan, where the D-Day landings are portrayed as an entirely American operation

Umm well it was depicting one beach front that was all US forces...

@RoboPatton: Exactly! It was utterly denied by the USSR, but the Mennonite Peoples in the USA and Canada knew all too well what really happened. It wasn't quite as bad as the Nazi Death Camps, but close!

And it remains largely forgotten.

Of course history will always be rewritten, even if we all saw the same event happen in front of our eyes - we all could interpret the intent behind this same event differently. The only common truth would be is the name of the person who was there.

We could also rewrite our own history because our life just boils down to what's on our resume, and what's on our future tombstone. So therefore, people who have judged you in the past are irrelevant, so what they think or thought doesn't matter too.

Those who win the battle get to write the history of it.

Maybe they aren't changing history...maybe they're correcting it. Perhaps other groups with their own agenda have grossly exaggerated those events in the text books and not the record is getting set straight.

I just put that out there as food for thought.

Also, about the WW2 thing - wtf? Of course Saving Private Ryan depicts it as just American, the invading countries each had their own beach. I learned this in a (GASP) American School - Sword and Gold Beach were British, Utah and Omaha were American, and Juno was Canadian. It would be inaccurate to have British troops at Omaha beach.

Now, let's take a truly classic and comprehensive WW2 movie - The Longest Day. The British are ALL over that movie.

This is stupid, I'm not going to list again about how 90% of my high school history was about Slavery in America, but I can attest that the Triangular Trade is an actual thing since I basically have a Ph.D. in Slavery because of highschool.

Triangular Trade

Triangular Trade is actually a GOOD term to use, it puts it in a geopolitical context and gives you the WHO, WHERE, and WHY, not just the WHAT. Basically, slaves are sent to America, America gives sugar and tobacco to Europe, Europe brings rum and other manufactured good to Africa, which then provides slaves for America (the Africans themselves sold the slaves, usually conquered tribes).

This is just another propaganda link. People read it, then immediately believe it.

The reference to Saving Private Ryan is bullpoo. The movie depicted Omaha Beach which was stormed by American Army Rangers. While Normandy as a whole was stormed by other allies as well (especially UK and Canadian forces), Omaha beach primarily American vs. German forces.

They left out a lot, like the Holodomor for example. But obviously they can't list EVERYTHING!
